There's no doubt that Brandon Sanderson is one of the premier fantasy authors in the world today, if only because he manages to get new books into the hands of the public with relative regularity. Of all his works in the Cosmere universe, Mistborn and The Stormlight Archive are the two that seem to resonate the most with fans.

The former is arguably the most popular these days, even if it pales in comparison to the fairly ridiculous scope of the latter. As such, we're seeing it crop up in more and more places, and in ever more exciting mediums. Now, we're about to get a major expansion to one of those adaptations, and it's well worth considering if you're an existing fan of the franchise.

In case you haven't been keeping up, the Mistborn Deckbuilding Game from Brotherwise Games has been out for a while now, and by all accounts is one of the best gaming adaptations the franchise has seen to date. As a marker of that, the company has announced their first expansion, The Well of Ascension, which draws its inspiration from the titular 2007 novel.

The description of the new product from the manufacturer reads as follows:

"Welcome back to Scadrial, the ash-choked world of Brandon Sanderson's epic Mistborn series! Well of Ascension -- based on the 2nd book of the series -- is set after the fall of the powerful Lord Ruler. In the vacuum of his absense, a fragile political alliance maintains power in Luthadel and the stakes couldn't be higher for the world's Mistborn.

"As in the book, this expansion reveals new powers and secrets for players to master. Alloy cards, new metals, and a powerful "coinshot" ability will all present new opportunities and challenges for players going head-to-head. And for those who would rather form a crew, a new solo/co-op mode lets you replay the climactic battle of the book, the Siege of Luthadel.

"Designed to refresh and enhance your Mistborn gameplay, Well of Ascension drops you directly into the danger facing Scadrial as cosmic forces vie for control of the world."

The game itself essentially sees players purchase cards to build and improve their decks as the game progresses. Metal obviously plays a key role, and the mechanics are much more akin to what we'd expect to find in a deckbuilding video game, rather than what is usually translated to the tabletop.

That's not the only thing Mistborn fans have to be excited about either, after a major deal was struck between the rights holders and Apple TV to produce feature film adaptations. At the same time, The Stormlight Archive is set to become a major TV series via the same producer, so the community should be eating well for a while to come yet.
