Wardogs Sold Over 1 Million Copies in Its First 24 Hours

Wardogs is a military FPS that was launched on September 10, 2026, as early access on Steam. In August, the game's closed beta drew roughly 500,000 players, and on launch day, the surge of players trying to log in caused the servers to go down.

On September 10, 2026, Bulkhead, the developer behind the game, announced on a Steam news page that Wardogs had surpassed 1 million copies sold within 24 hours. The success of Wardogs came as a pleasant surprise, considering the rough year for competitive shooters. In January 2026, the game Highguard was released and briefly reached 100,000 concurrent players on Steam. Within the first week, that number dropped by more than 80%. Then, in March 2026, Wildlight Entertainment announced the game would be permanently shut down.

Bungie's Marathon, released in March 2026, has received good reviews, but it has struggled commercially. Other multiplayer shooters like Last Flag and 1047 Games' Empulse also failed to keep an audience this year.
