MachineGames drops free 19-mission Quake expansion for 30th anniversary
Also included are new weapon variants that build on classics, three fresh achievements to claim, a cheats menu in single-player, and more.
Quake is turning 30, and to celebrate it, MachineGames and id Software had a new announcement at QuakeCon's welcome stream today. It sadly wasn't a new Quake game announcement, but fans do have more of the classic to experience as part of the new Dawn of the Machine episode that's available for free on the 2021-released remaster.
The episode carries 19 brand-new missions to jump into as part of a complete campaign filled with familiar and new foes to take down. This isn't the first time MachineGames has delivered Quake content either, as it had worked on the remaster as well as post-launch expansions before.
"As the battle-hardened Ranger, players survive a labyrinthine dimension where time folds back onto itself, creating a unique looping structure where each visit in the present reshapes the future," said the development teams today about this release. "Collect runes to unlock previously sealed paths brimming with new routes, encounters and secrets, plus persistent health and ammunition upgrades throughout add a new layer of progression to Quake’s classic gameplay."
Aside from the highly replayable campaign, also included are new weapon variants that build on classics, three fresh achievements to claim, a cheats menu in single-player, a behind-the-scenes gallery for seeing unused content, and a whole lot of bug fixes.

The Quake Dawn of the Machine episode is now available across PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch versions of Quake. Game Pass players can also jump in for no extra cost right now. The Epic Games Store and GOG versions of Quake don't have the update yet, however.
