Harry Potter Season 2 Officially Casts Gilderoy Lockhart For Chamber Of Secrets
Harry Potter season 2 just got more magical.
The Harry Potter franchise began in 1997 with the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and is now a global phenomenon and one of the most successful media franchises in the world. Reportedly valued at over $32 billion, the empire continues to grow, and Warner Bros. eight highly successful adaptations won't be the only live-action Wizarding World on offer. HBO is now adapting the fantasy novels, and a new cast member has arrived.
Deadline has reported that Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Gilderoy Lockhart for HBO's Harry Potter season 2. Hoult is currently in production for the Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow as the famous DCU villain Lex Luthor, and will be portraying a villain in HBO's adaptation of Harry Potter in its second season. Lockhart was initially portrayed by Kenneth Branagh in the Warner Bros. movie Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
HBO's Harry Potter season 2 was already greenlit earlier this year and will reportedly begin filming in the fall ahead of season 1's release on December 25. The series will be released exclusively on HBO Max and air on HBO.
Gilderoy Lockhart is a half-blood wizard, was a Ravenclaw student at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and became a famous celebrity in the wizarding world as the author of many books about his alleged encounters with dark creatures. In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Lockhart became a professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts. He becomes obsessed with the idea of teaching the famous boy who lived Harry Potter and his role in the series takes a dark turn.
HBO's Harry Potter series includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, as well as Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall. However, HBO still has yet to announce who will be taking over the role of Ginny Weasley as season 1's actress, Gracie Cochrane, will not return for season 2 due to "unforseen circumstances."
