The Simpsons: Hit & Run remake seemingly confirmed by a very senior source

When you ask people what games they most want to see remade, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is never far from the top of that list.

And those of us who have been hoping for that remake to one day arrive have just been dealt the most promising news we've ever had.

During a Simpsons panel at the recent Disney D23 event, creator Matt Groening was asked whether or not a Hit & Run sequel would ever be of interest.

Groening replied: "I don't know [if] I'm speaking out of turn, I think the original game is coming back in some form."

Furthermore, it does appear that Groening was not supposed to let this slip, as current Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman followed up with "or not," perhaps in an attempt to row Groening's comment back.

But the cat is seemingly now out of the bag, and whether it's a sequel or, perhaps more likely a remake, this is news that plenty of gamers have been eager for.

Released in 2003 at the height of film and TV shovelware games, The Simpsons: Hit & Run was a welcome surprise, blending a chaotic, GTA-esque world with comedy that was genuinely funny – a lovely throwback to when The Simpsons was still good.

A remake had been teased previously, with producer John Melchior stating in 2023 that developer Radical Entertainment – now New Radical Games – was working on Hit & Run 2.

Despite his attempts to keep Groening quiet, Selman himself noted earlier that he would "never say never" to a potential remake, acknowledging that "people love it".

Interestingly, the team would not have to look far to find a developer capable of remaking the game.

Original developer Radical, who went on to make the Prototype games, now specialises in remastering classic games, making them the ideal candidate to take on this project.

My only ask is that, if a Hit & Run remake does come to pass, please, please, please replace the last three levels where you're just driving nuclear waste to the UFO. Please.
