PlayStation might be embroiled in an enormous debate about the rights of players to access physical media right now, but things are ticking away behind the scenes in the meantime. That's particularly true of PS Plus, which continues to receive updates from Sony as we move through each month.

August was probably the best month the service has seen in a long while, with games like Helldivers 2 and Dying Light 2 joining for subscribers once again. Now, we already have some information about what the company's plans are for next month, but only on what they're planning to take away from us this time around.

Madden NFL 26

As first reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, we now know which games are leaving PlayStation Plus in September, and there are some real heavy hitters this time around. The full list of games departing the service (at the time of writing) is as follows:

  • Persona 5 Tactica
  • EA Sports Madden NFL 26
  • Toy Story 2 (PS Plus Premium)
  • Toy Story 3 (PS Plus Premium)

Most of these were actually entirely predictable, EA Sports Madden NFL 26 is likely being removed to make way for (and incentivize people to buy) the new game, which has just been released into the hands of players. At the same time, Disney has confirmed that a definitive collection of classic Toy Story games that are due out in October 2026, which is why we unusually have two departures from the Premium tier this time around.

In the case of Persona 5 Tactica, that game has just completed a full year on PS Plus, likely leading to its removal this month to avoid any licensing issues.

Over on the PlayStation platform itself, those might not actually be the only casualties heading into next month. The Shadowrun trilogy, made up of Returns, Dragonfall – Director's Cut, and Hong Kong, has been available at the Extra and Premium tiers for some time. That said, they are currently listed in the "Last chance to play" section, so you may want to play it safe and work through those, despite no official announcement on their removal yet.

We don't yet know what additions are planned for PlayStation Plus in September, but given how much vitriol the company is receiving under their posts, it's difficult to think of any one game that could win players around right now.
