Blizzard reportedly crowned as the top-performing Xbox studio in FY26

There have been some tough news coming out of the Xbox camp for a couple of months now, with mass layoffs, leadership shakeup, and studio selloffs coming in back to back. However, one developer among all its teams is standing above the rest, as a leaked document has seemingly revealed a surprise top performer.

In an apparent email sent to staff, which Windows Central has gotten a hold of, studio president Johanna Faries had revealed that Blizzard had finished the last financial year as the best-performing game studio in the entire organization.

"In FY26 Blizzard ended the year as the top-performing studio in Xbox's studios division, and this past year has marked our third highest fiscal for top line revenue in Blizzard's history," says Faries. "FY25 and FY26 were our first back-to-back years of growth since FY17."

While the studio hasn't released any new games during those times, it's the rising popularity of Overwatch and Diablo 4 (the Lord of Hatred expansion) that had brought in the revenue boost. From the duo, Overwatch had even delivered its "strongest quarter since 2022," where its hugely popular 10-hero content drop had surely helped.

To continue the momentum, Faries also mentions the upcoming BlizzCon 2026 event as another major turn for the studio.

"The weekend will reflect the bold and collaborative work of everyone reading this," said the Blizzard president. "It's my hope that the event can shine a light on the work underway at Blizzard, and that it can serve as a powerful springboard into a new era of momentum and excitement behind our mission to bring joy and belonging for communities worldwide."

While no official announcements have been made, Blizzard is heavily rumored to be making a new StarCraft game. Instead of a real-time strategy game though, this is reportedly set to be an open-world shooter. Outside of the usual new expansion reveals for its games, this may be the big reveal that the studio is planning for BlizzCon 2026.
