Unlike Silo, Netflix’s 96% RT Dystopian Thriller Is Officially Ending After 2 Seasons

After season 3, Apple TV's Silo will get one more season to end its run on a conclusive note. As reports confirm, Silo's seasons 3 and 4 were shot back to back. Owing to this, just one year after Silo season 3, the Apple TV sci-fi show's final season will premiere on Apple TV. Unfortunately, for Netflix's hit dystopian thriller, The Eternaut, it will not get to last as long as Silo.

Based on a comic book of the same name by Héctor Germán Oesterheld and Francisco Solano López, Netflix's The Eternaut premiered to rave reviews from viewers and critics and still boasts a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%. The show even garnered the interest of creative powerhouses like Hideo Kojima, which further contributed to its commercial success.

Like Silo, The Eternaut will end its run in 2027 with its final installment. Surprisingly, though, despite having solid source material with enough content for at least three seasons, The Eternaut is not getting the opportunity to last as long as shows like Silo. While it is unfortunate that the Netflix sci-fi show will end so soon, it is hard not to be hyped about its next season.

The Eternaut Season 2 Will Be Ambitious & Conclusive

The Eternaut season 2 was announced shortly after the show premiered on Netflix in 2025. However, owing to the expansive scale of the show's next installment, it is taking quite some time to come together. Owing to this, even though The Eternaut season 2 was expected to land on Netflix in 2026 itself, it is now eyeing a 2027 release.

In season 1, The Eternaut paved the way for larger sci-fi elements by introducing everything from alien hierarchies to interdimensional travel. With season 2, the Netflix sci-fi series will not only pay off these early developments from season 1 but also attempt to bring them a well-rounded closure.

From its early chapters, The Eternaut came off as a typical post-apocalyptic TV show in which an unexplained disaster wipes out a large chunk of the human population. It even seemed reminiscent of Silo because it started with survivors being forced to lock themselves inside their homes as a toxic snowfall in the outside world was killing people.

However, as it progressed, The Eternaut created a distinct identity for itself by walking through a compelling story of a harrowing alien invasion. Its subtle themes of colonialism and the power of collective resistance even made it far more relatable than many dystopian thrillers out there.

With season 4, The Eternaut is expected to expand its sci-fi vision while doubling down on its real-world parallels.

The Eternaut Avoids Silo’s Pacing Issue With Its Short Runtime

Apple TV's Silo continues to dominate streaming charts and remains one of the most popular modern dystopian thrillers. However, after season 2, Silo has faced some criticism for its visible pacing issues. In season 2, the show struggled to move its plot forward midway through its runtime and only made up for its stalling plot points towards the end.

Even in season 3, it looks like Silo is facing similar issues in its early chapters. While Silo will likely rectify these issues in the second half of its third season and deliver a satisfying ending with season 4, it is hard not to see how the show could have benefited from a shorter runtime. Perhaps a three-season run would have been better for the Apple TV sci-fi series.

By keeping its narrative short and crisp, Netflix's The Eternaut is seemingly avoiding Silo's mistakes. It risks being a little too rushed in its upcoming season. However, if handled well, it could end its run on a high note and ensure that its story never feels unnecessarily dragged or bogged down by fillers.
