Disney’s Tangled Remake Set Photos Reveal First Look At Kathryn Hahn’s Live-Action Mother Gothel
Tangled is coming back with more action and mayhem.
Disney's beloved animated movie Tangled is getting a whole new revamp with a live-action remake. It is widely debated about the origin of the story of Rapunzel, which was published and made popular by the Brothers Grimm in 1812. However, its origins trace back through early French and Italian literary tales, as well as roots in Middle Eastern epics and Christian legend. Now, Disney is revisiting the classic tale, but this time with a twist.
New set photos of Disney's live-action remake of Tangled have begun surfacing, and now a new photo of Kathryn Hahn has arrived, ready to take on the villainous role of Mother Gothel. Hahn is known for Step Brothers, Bad Moms, and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. However, most recently, the actress has appeared in WandaVision and Agatha All Along as the wicked Agatha Harkness, showcasing her as the ideal fit for the Mother Gothel role.

The images show Hahn on the way to the Tangled set with the iconic large and curly hair Mother Gothel is known for in the original animated movie. Filming is currently taking place in Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, and a lot of photos and videos from the set have been taken by the local residents and tourists witnessing the iconic Corona Kingdom being created within the town as extras are adorned in Renaissance-style fashion.
There are some roles and casting yet to be confirmed, including Diego Luna, who was announced to be joining the cast in an original role made for Disney's remake. Two other roles yet to be announced are Rapunzel's parents and the King and Queen of Corona, Frederic and Arianna. There have been sightings of Outlander star Caitríona Balfe in Spain, who has been said to be a fan-favorite casting for Arianna, but there has not been an official confirmation at the time of writing.
Hahn and Luna will be joined by Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider and Teagan Croft as Rapunzel. Maximus the Palace Horse has also been spotted in set photos, with production using a mechanical puppet in places.
Disney has also adapted the original colorway in Tangled, to blue and gold rather than purple and gold, which is causing divisiveness online. However, recent images are depicting some iconic scenes remaining in the remake, bringing hope for fans.
It has been reported that Tangled's remake will arrive sometime in 2028.
