Fired Rockstar Workers Address Those Planning To Boycott GTA 6
"Don't Boycott GTA 6": Fire Workers Don't Want You To Skip Rockstar's Big Release
Rockstar Games made headlines for all the wrong reasons last year when it fired more than 30 of its employees. The studio has been accused of firing those employees for trying to unionize, and although they appreciate the overwhelming support from the video game community, those employees don’t want you to boycott GTA 6 over it.
Former Rockstar Employees Still Want You To Play GTA 6
The latest message from the former Rockstar devs was shared with TheGamer, and posted on the Independent Workers’ of Great Britain’s (IWGB) social channels. In it, a handful of the 31 employees who were suddenly let go by Rockstar last year not only urge fans to not boycott GTA 6, but share more helpful ways in which fans can show their support.
One of the leading reasons why they don’t want you to boycott GTA 6 is because, even though they were fired as Rockstar turned the final corner, they all still spent years working on what will likely end up being the biggest and most successful video game of all time. “We poured years of our lives into helping build this game. We don't want you to boycott it. We want you to help us fight for justice,” Jack Hoxby, one of the many employees fired by Rockstar last year, explains.
“Since Rockstar fired us suddenly last year, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support from gamers and workers around the world.” I imagine a lot of that support has included people committing to not buying and playing GTA 6. There’s no need for that. You can still play the game, if you want to, and support those affected by the firings in more meaningful ways.
You Can Support The Fired Workers Without Missing Out On The Game
The legal battle between those fired and Rockstar Games will come to a head in court next month. That legal battle has, naturally, been quite a costly one. Those costs will have been a drop in the ocean for Rockstar. The fired employees on the other side of the case, however, need all the financial support they can get to make it as fair a fight as possible.
“Buy one of our T-shirts. You’ll be helping to win justice for us and to defend the right of workers everywhere to come together and unionise,” Hoxby continues. “That way, when GTA 6 comes out in November, you can enjoy it knowing that you had the backs of the people who made it.” All proceeds from the IWGB t-shirts sold will go to helping those fired by Rockstar and to fund the ongoing legal battle between those employees and Rockstar Games.
