Xbox drops five free AAA games you don't need Game Pass for, Assassin's Creed included

Xbox’s latest edition of Free Play Days has arrived, and it’s the best I’ve personally seen in a long time.

Ubisoft and Xbox have partnered up to offer all Xbox users - yes, you do not need an Xbox Game Pass subscription - limited-time access to a line-up of five major AAA games.

Looking for something to do this weekend? Lucky for you, you can now enjoy this free line-up consisting of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Far Cry 6, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones, and The Crew Motorfest.

How does Xbox’s Free Play Days work?

Free Play Days is held every weekend and it’s where a small line-up of games is made free for the duration of that weekend on Xbox.

With this latest batch, that means you have until the end of the day on Sunday, October 4 to enjoy them.

There are no limits on how far you can progress within each game during the Free Play Days event.

You’re not going to complete all five titles this time around, but you could dedicate yourself to one if you’re going for full completion rather than sampling the lot.

Usually, the line-up is split between titles all Xbox users can enjoy and some that are reserved for Game Pass subscribers; this time, however, Xbox has partnered with Ubisoft to make all five games available to all.

If you want to continue playing past Free Play Days, you’re in luck

While free access to this line-up of five Ubisoft titles will expire at the end of the day on Sunday, October 4, the fact that you may want to continue playing has been considered.

All five included games are currently running offers so you can pick them up at a major discount.

Far Cry 6 is currently available for $8.99 instead of $59.99, while Assassin’s Creed Odyssey can be nabbed for $11.99 instead of $59.99.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora could be yours for $16.49 instead of $29.99, Skull and Bones is down to just $4.49 from $29.99, and The Crew Motorfest rounds us out as the most expensive at $47.99 instead of $59.99.

Pricing may vary by region - and these offers won’t stick around for too long once this edition of Free Play Days draws to a close.

What we’d recommend from Free Play Days

Usually, I’d recommend my personal ‘best picks’ of Free Play Days, but everything here is worth trying - yes, even Skull and Bones. It’s not a brilliant game but aren’t you morbidly curious to give it a whirl?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is easily one of the best Assassin’s Creed games. Its open-world formula often comes under fire for being repetitive, but it’s still a delight to explore.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is incredibly underrated - and don’t forget that it now boasts a third-person mode if its first-person launch default wasn’t for you.

It’s a very strong line-up, so you certainly shouldn’t be short of anything to play this weekend.
