Crimson Desert just got a free world builder on PC that lets you redesign the entire map
If you’ve actually managed to leave Hernand, then you’ll know just how enormous Crimson Desert’s open-world is.
Pywel is a delight to explore, as well as downright bonkers. It’s not often that you’ll pivot between fighting a mechanical dragon to encountering a walking forest house in an RPG.
Pearl Abyss is only set to make the game’s map even larger with the arrival of Crimson Desert’s first paid DLC Charting The Unknown, which arrives on October 15.
In the meantime though, PC users have the opportunity to do something rather unique.
One modder has created an incredibly comprehensive world builder that allows you to tailor Crimson Desert’s open-world perfectly to your liking.
Created by NexusMods user ipey, the aptly titled ‘World Builder’ mod allows you to place any of the game’s 48,000-plus prefabricated items anywhere in the world - and you can do that live without ever having to leave the game.
You’ll be able to browse the very extensive prefab library which includes walls, ruins, props, nature items, furniture, and more.
Essentially, while you cannot add or amend quests, activities, and NPCs, you can place any material item wherever you want it.
When an item is selected, it’ll spawn in front of your character and in the style of The Sims, you’ll move it into place and drop it when you’re satisfied.

Everything placed lives within the mod project’s own files so it doesn’t write changes into the game’s save data, if that’s something you’re concerned about.
You can text search in the prefab library as you’re not always going to want to sift through 48,000 items.
The mod includes full item rotation, grid snapping, and textured preview images, so quality-of-life usage has been well considered.
The mod doesn’t alter gameplay, but it does allow for player creativity
As for why you might want to edit the game’s world, well, why not? It’s fun.
You can build your own city or even your own castle. Of course, expanded base-building elements are also on the way in Charting The Unknown.
As the creator notes, it’s a mode designed “for people who enjoy being creative and experimenting” while adding that it doesn’t affect the core gameplay experience.
What’s more, the mod’s creator has major plans for the future. They hope to create a builder that allows players to make full conversion worlds and their own quests, but it’s early days for now on both of those projects.
“Always love mods like these where you can turn the game into an actual sandbox. Fantastic work!” one happy player wrote.
“Awesome! Works perfectly, thanks!” added another.
Someone referred to the creation as “a milestone in Crimson Desert's modding scene” which is very high praise.
The mod won’t be to the liking of all Crimson Desert players but if you are creative and don’t want to leave Pywel, this could be perfect for you.
It goes without saying that the mod is available on PC only and requires a copy of Crimson Desert.
