The DCU's Rumored Wonder Woman Is About To Prove She's The Perfect Choice

Many think they have figured out who is playing Wonder Woman in the DC Universe, and the rumored actor is about to prove why she is the perfect choice. Despite the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters still being in its infancy, the franchise is about to enter its third year, with some big DC heroes yet to make an appearance. For instance, both Batman and Wonder Woman, the other two-thirds of DC's iconic trinity, are yet to be cast, much less have projects in official development.

That said, many are convinced that one of these DC characters will appear in Man of Tomorrow, the 2027 sequel to 2025's Superman. Man of Tomorrow already has a stacked cast of DC heroes, from Superman himself to Supergirl, Hawkgirl, Mr. Terrific, a few Green Lanterns, and even Blue Beetle. Nonetheless, some are choosing to believe that the DCU's Wonder Woman is being hidden within the film's cast, given that Adria Arjona has been handed a role in Man of Tomorrow.

Officially, Arjona has been cast as Maxima, an alien queen from the planet Almerac. However, based on the actor being a long-standing fancast for Wonder Woman, many think Maxima is just a smokescreen and that Arjona will be debuting the DCU's Amazonian goddess in Man of Tomorrow. While this remains just rumors and speculation, if Arjona is actually playing the DCU's Wonder Woman, an upcoming movie could prove why she is the perfect choice for Diana Prince: Adam Wingard's Onslaught.

Onslaught Will Be Adria Arjona's Perfect Wonder Woman Setup Movie

Onslaught is an A24 sci-fi action movie set for release in September 2026. It will star Arjona as a sniper in the military who is tasked with protecting her daughter against genetically engineered super-soldiers. Immediately, this premise conveys just how action-heavy the film is set to be, with Arjona at its center. Indeed, the first trailer for Onslaught confirmed this, showing Arjona's character fighting off the three main super-soldiers, detailing just how much she will have to get her hands dirty in the upcoming story.

If anything, this is a perfect prelude to Arjona's possible role as Wonder Woman. As an Amazonian warrior, Wonder Woman's fighting style will be very different from that of Celeste's in Onslaught. Still, the latter proves one thing about the former: Arjona has the action chops to pull them both off. Arjona's previous roles have not been overly action-heavy, but Onslaught looks set to establish her as an actor who can easily turn her hand to brutal violence. More than any of her previous credits, this will perfectly set up Arjona's rumored ascension into Wonder Woman.

Moreover, Onslaught seems set to have a genuinely heroic core amid the action and violence. Celeste's entire goal is to protect her daughter, likely giving Arjona a lot of depth as the film's lead. Not only will she display her action prowess, but Arjona could show a more tender, protective, compassionate, and empathetic side to the character via Onslaught's central relationship. Beyond being a badass warrior and DC superhero, Wonder Woman is overly kind and caring, making Onslaught even more of a trial run for Arjona's speculative role as Diana Prince.

Other Characters Adria Arjona Might Be Playing In The DCU

DC Maxima

Although Wonder Woman is dominating most of the discussion around Arjona's upcoming DCU role, this all remains conjecture. It is entirely possible that Arjona isn't playing Wonder Woman after all this, raising the question of who she could be bringing to life. Of course, the easiest answer is the one that James Gunn himself has given: Maxima. What is known of Man of Tomorrow's story lends credence to this, with the film's main villain having been confirmed as Brainiac. Brainiac and Maxima are interlinked in many comic stories, after the former destroys the latter's planet.

This leads Maxima to join Brainiac for a time, before defecting and helping the Justice League defeat him. With Brainiac confirmed as the DCU's next big antagonist, Maxima's inclusion is certainly logical. Beyond that, and, of course, Wonder Woman, there are admittedly few characters who Arjona could be playing. One possibility is Lysl Dox, Brainiac's wife, but this would be too small a role for some of Arjona's talents. With all that said, Wonder Woman remains the main theory for who Adria Arjona is playing in the DC Universe, with 2026's Onslaught likely to provide a good endorsement as to why.
