Modder Fixing Broken Assassin's Creed 3 Remaster After 7 Years
One Gamer Is Working To Fix The Infamous Assassin's Creed 3 Remaster After 7 Years
I tried to play the Assassin's Creed 3 remaster on my Series X earlier this year, seeing as Ubisoft delisted the original. There's the usual performance hiccups and odd animation glitches, but the worst offender was the wax figurine NPCs melting under the Boston sun speaking from my back speakers even though they were right in front of me. I uninstalled it pretty quickly and grabbed an Xbox 360 copy instead.
Ubisoft hasn't done much to address the laundry list of problems, even though it's the only way to officially buy Assassin's Creed 3 now, leaving the end of Desmond's story and the criminally underrated beginning to the Kenway saga in tatters. Thankfully, modders are on the case.
Reddit user Delicious-Tour5767 (who I'll refer to as Tour for the rest of the article) announced on r/assassinscreed that they are developing a mod to finally fix the "butcher job" Ubisoft did on the remaster. "I'm currently working on an overhaul patch to bring back the visual quality this game deserves," they posted, attaching several photos of their work so far.
What Does The Mod Change?
The mod replaces main characters with their high-detail cinematic models during normal gameplay, alters the skin shader "to eliminate the infamous 'wax figure' look from the remaster," enhances the textures and materials for Connor's outfits, tones down the overly dramatic lighting to create a more natural look, and reduces the "excessive global fog."
"It's still a work in progress, but the results so far make a massive difference in gameplay," Tour said. "I'll be sharing more updates and preview shots soon! Let me know what you think or if there are other remastered eyesores you'd love to see fixed."
The plan is to launch the mod on Nexus, making it readily available to fans, but until then, Tour is focused on getting "all the features implemented and polished."
