Steam Frame VR Headset Price Disclosed by Valve

Valve has unveiled the price for its wireless VR headset, Steam Frame, showcased at GDC 2026. The headset is currently available in two configurations: Steam Frame 256GB, priced at $1,059, and Steam Frame 1TB, priced at $1,299.

For pre-orders, Valve is using a lottery-style system. Sign-ups close September 17 at 10 AM PT, after which buyers are randomly sorted into either the pre-order list or the waitlist. The first invites should go out September 18.

The headset comes with controllers and a copy of Half-Life: Alyx and is designed to stream Steam games while also supporting standalone play. The kit includes the headset and Steam Frame Controllers, which feature a split gamepad layout. Through the Steam Frame Standalone Verified program, players can check which titles in their library, both VR and non-VR, will run in standalone mode. The current list includes Cuphead, Hades and Hades II, Brotato, Portal 2, Balatro, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and more.

Valve describes the device as lightweight and compact, with its weight balanced front-to-rear for comfort. It's designed to be easy to put on and use immediately, with no wires or setup required. Steam Frame features custom pancake lenses paired with 2160 x 2160 LCD panels for each eye, supporting refresh rates between 72 and 144Hz. The immersive experience is also ensured by dual stereo speakers on each side.

The headset runs on SteamOS, and like any device with a full operating system, users can install their own apps or use a browser. It's also compatible with the Steam Controller and supports streaming from a PC, laptop, Steam Deck, or Steam Machine.

Valve

The trademark Steam Frame was registered by Valve in 2025. It covered various types of computer hardware, but at the time, it was unclear what the device would be, and there had been speculation about which device the company was working on.
