A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms Season 2 Finally Overcomes Filming Challenges & Delays With Major Update
It looks like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 is forging ahead with a major update.
The series, which takes place between the events of the mega-hit Game of Thrones and its prequel House of the Dragon, launched its premiere season earlier this year. It follows the unlikely friendship of wannabe knight Duncan (Dunk) the Tall (Peter Claffey), and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell). A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was generally well received, and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.
Good news is in for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms fans as the series gets a major update. Sharing an Instagram story of a gift he got from the production, actor Claffey confirmed that the series wrapped filming, calling the item, "The greatest wrap gift I've ever received."
This news comes after the production of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was significantly stalled by some factors out of the team's control. A report in mid-April claimed that the Game of Thrones spinoff had filming stalled due to severe flooding damage to their filming location due to the intense Storm Therese. This sidelined the production significantly, leading to concerns about its release date.
Later that month, the production was confirmed to have moved from its original location to La Fortaleza in Gran Canaria. Undoubtedly, though, this shift disrupted the original schedule for the series.
Earlier this month, Ansell also did publish an Instagram story to say that he had wrapped up filming for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Now, Claffey's Instagram story seems to even more fully confirm Ansell's words from earlier this month.
With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms done filming, it seems that the schedule will officially not be impacted in any major way. The show's sophomore season was originally supposed to wrap filming in June of this year, so they are only just over a month off schedule. Given the catastrophic flooding that led to their pivot, that is a small way off course.
The fact that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was able to recover in this way just goes to show how much HBO is prioritizing the Game of Thrones franchise. Both the original series and its spinoffs continue to be a huge driver of subscriber traffic, with Dunk and Egg's tales being no exception.
With House of the Dragon season 3 just concluding and its final season not arriving until 2028, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will come at a great time. Its exact release date within 2027 is yet to be revealed, but rest assured, Game of Thrones fans will get a taste of the Targaryen universe before the final installment of House of the Dragon.
