This year celebrates three whole decades of Pokémon and what better way to celebrate than by filling your life with even more of your favorite 'mons. In recent weeks, fans have received news of stunning redesigns for the likes of Meowth as well as an epic collaboration between Adidas and The Pokémon Company.
On top of that, we can look forward to the start of Pokemon's Generation 10 with the launch of Pokémon Winds and Waves some time next year, taking fans to a tropical archipelago region with multiple underwater areas. Whilst we do not have all the information so far, we do know the Starters we can expect, and it does seem as though the beginning of Gen 10 will be bigger and better than ever before.
However, that is not all, as last month saw the launch of a brand-new Pokémon collaboration alongside Los Angeles-based creative director and designer Sean Wotherspoon. Arriving back on 23 July, a brand-new batch of Pokémon plushies has been released, featuring stunning depictions of Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Charizard.
Now on sale across Pokémon Center Online in Japan, there is no doubt that you can grab these online and I would definitely recommend them as they add a unique spin to the standard plushies of your favorite 'mons. This is because each design features a patchwork quilt-like pattern sewed onto their bodies. Bulbasaur's flower has received a redesign, as well as Charizard's wings and Pikachu's belly and ears. The results are truly special, and despite not being the biggest Pokémon fan, I myself am tempted.
Of course, this design is expected from Wotherspoon, who is best known for founding the vintage store Round Two. As such, his work is best recognized as featuring 80s and 90's-inspired prints. Whilst previously working on street wear and shoes, it seems as though the talented designer has now turned his attention to the world of Pokémon.
As they are not just toys, more collector's pieces, they come alongside some hefty price tags. The Bulbasaur costs 7,700 yen, whilst Charizard and Pikachu also come in at the same. This equals around $50. Not an eye-watering price, but perhaps more than your standard plushie. However, thanks to Wotherspoon's skills, I was expecting a much bigger price tag, so this was a pleasant surprise.
They make for the perfect addition to 30th anniversary celebrations for the Pokémon franchise, and will make the perfect gift for the Nintendo lovers in your life.
