Dragon Ball: Limit Breaker Journey Officially Announced, And It's Coming Soon

Nearly two years after release, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is about to get a brand-new single-player mode that completely transforms the arena fighting game. A successor to the classic Budokai Tenkaichi series, Sparking! Zero has enjoyed significant post-launch support, even as publisher Bandai Namco turns its attention toward the next Dragon Ball game with Xenoverse 3's new saga. A new game mode called Limit Breaker Journey will build on Sparking! Zero's incredible success, and it's right around the corner.

Limit Breaker Journey comes as part of Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero's Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC, which releases July 30, 2026, for all platforms—PlayStation 5, Switch and Switch 2, PC, and Xbox. Super Limit-Breaking NEO adds an astounding 33 new characters, four new stages, and some new gameplay features, most notable of all being Limit Breaker Journey, which was recently detailed in an overview trailer from Bandai Namco.

Limit Breaker Journey introduces light roleplaying mechanics to Sparking! Zero, letting players choose a fighter, complete battles and events, and alter their stats and abilities to the player's preferences. It's almost a roguelike mode—your fighter has a limited amount of stamina to move around the map, which in turn decides how much health you'll begin a battle with, and you have limited resources, Senzu Beans, with which to restore your stamina.

When you level up in Limit Breaker Journey, you can spend skill points to alter a character's stats, which combine with "Battle Art" modifiers to shape how said character plays. Interestingly, the fighters you build in Limit Breaker Journey aren't limited (wink, wink) to that game mode. They can be used in Player Matches (unranked online bouts) and offline battles in other modes.

From the overview, Limit Breaker Journey seems like an incredible addition to the already fantastic Sparking! Zero. It's an opportunity to take some of the least powerful characters and mold them into a stronger form, tailored to your play style. A repeatable single-player game mode also does wonders for Sparking! Zero's longevity, and with the characters usable in other game modes, the Super Limit-Breaking NEO DLC injects a lot of variety into the two-year-old game.

Perhaps best of all: it's out in a week. The DLC was announced earlier this year with the new single-player mode teased, but the extent of Limit Breaker Journey wasn't yet revealed. Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has steadily improved on its already celebrated foundation, and the Super Limit-Breaking NEO expansion is poised to add a transformative new game mode in Limit Breaker Journey on July 30.
