Gundam Returns With A Second New Adventure In 2027
The Gundam franchise has gone through several major transformations since its anime inception back in 1979, with several reboots, spinoffs, and new eras for fans of the series to fall back in love with all over again. While not all of these ventures were as successful as the rest, one upcoming project has the makings to be one of the most successful entries in the franchise yet.
On top of being able to introduce a new generation of fans to the iconic sci-fi franchise through the new anime next year, Gundam's second project breaks an interesting tradition for the series, kicking off the start of its brand-new era with an incredibly stylish debut.
Although we don't have an exact release date just yet, the upcoming release of Gundam Rogue Orbit will offer the first traditional triple-A gaming adaptation of the series when it releases in 2027, which is promising to offer a "bold new take on Gundam" according to its official Steam page.
Taking place in a never-before-seen alternative universe from the series, the most unique aspect of Gundam Rogue Orbit, aside from its exhilaratingly fast mech combat, is that it swaps out the traditional human enemies for an overwhelming alien threat. While this isn't the first time the series has broached the subject of aliens before, the antagonists of Rogue Orbit will function as the primary antagonists of the series right from the get-go, breaking an unspoken rule for the franchise.
Knowing the Gundam franchise, there will likely be some additional twists that go beyond a simple story of humanity fighting against an alien invasion, but regardless of the direction that Rogue Orbit's narrative will go down, the fast-paced gameplay and highly detailed cutscenes look absolutely stunning so far, and feels like a love letter to one of the most influential mech anime ever made.
Releasing for Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X, the high-octane combat of Gundam Rogue Orbit looks incredibly promising already, with gameplay that looks highly reminiscent of Fromsoftware's critically acclaimed Armored Core franchise, mixing in brutal melee attacks, fast-dodges, parrying, and ranged abilities galore.
Allowing you to unleash the full potential of a Gundam unit on a variety of enemies, from massive kaiju to smaller alien grunts, Gundam Rogue Orbit is well worth keeping an eye out for when it releases in 2027 if you're even remotely a fan of the series, or sci-fi action games in general.
