New Skyrim mod is a must-have for those who want the Baldur's Gate 3 experience

For Skyrim players who wish their game were more like Baldur’s Gate 3, a brand new mod has been released that emphasises the followers you can bring with you on your adventures.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is one of the most popular RPGs of the past twenty years, but fans have often pointed to various mechanics and systems which they feel could be improved.

That’s where the modding scene has stepped in, introducing new mechanics and technical changes which seek to improve the base game version of Skyrim.

For fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 especially, this brand new mod has introduced some new features for followers, playing up the party-based aspects of the RPG genre.

Walk With Me - Follower and Companion Pathing System is a brand new mod from creator hashhbbrown which allows your companions to feel like real people who exist with the Dragonborn, as opposed to simple followers who live to serve.

Some of these new behaviours allow the companions to behave as if they have their own agency, with new AI and interactions giving them more agency than vanilla Skyrim allows.

It also lets you bring along 10 companions, for truly massive groups that can hang out together.

This begins with the way the party moves during travel, where you can adjust the formation of how the group moves, with options for spacing and catch-up speeds which help companions to rejoin you if they slow down.

If you stop for a while, companions will take a break, using nearby seats to rest or taking part in activities. They’ll also start conversations with each other during this downtime.

Where you are in the world will also be affected by this; for example, being inside an inn will cause your companions to start drinking, while homes and towns will favour more food-related activities. In areas with multiple floors, connected stairs and ramps will also let them seek activities in other areas, provided it stays within the designated relax zone.

In the wilderness and in dungeons, their behaviour stays appropriate to the setting, so you won’t see any actions that feel wildly out of character.

Once you’re ready to get going again, this moment of temporary rest ends when you leave the configured area, and characters will once again lock in to travelling with you.

What this mod ultimately does is create an environment to flesh out your followers with new interactions and activities, helping them to become fully realised characters.

While the writing may not be quite on the same level as Baldur’s Gate 3, it does remind me of the same duty and care taken to present the companions in that game as authentic individuals, and as someone who enjoys some of Skyrim’s many NPCs, it’s a good mod to use for those who don’t like adventuring alone.
