Nvidia GeForce NOW finally adds official Firefox support

Nvidia's GeForce NOW platform has support for a huge number of platforms, ranging from PCs, mobile devices, TVs, and more. Being a streaming service, having support for as many internet-connect devices is a big plus. Today, Nvidia is expanding once again, and this time it's on the browser front.

Nvidia has announced that Firefox is joining the supported browsers team, giving users official access to the RTX-powered streaming features after years of waiting.

“Firefox earned its place on our list of supported browsers by delivering the first-class experience GeForce NOW players expect," says Andrew Fear, the director of NVIDIA GeForce NOW. We set a high bar for browser support, and we’re excited to welcome Firefox — giving millions of Firefox fans a new way to stream the games they love."

The duo says that the support is arriving thanks to months of collaboration between the engineers of Nvidia and Firefox, letting the browser join others like Chrome, Edge, Opera GX, and Safari for natively playing games over the cloud.

Prior to this update, attempting to play a game via GeForce NOW on a Firefox browser would throw an error. However, using the latest version of Firefox, users can simply head to play.geforcenow.com and use their account to jump into the over 2000 supported games available in the service.

According to the system requirements for supported platforms, at least a 15Mbps internet connection is required to play at 720p 60 FPS, with 4K 120 FPS requiring at least a 35 Mbps connection.

"Teaming up with NVIDIA to bring GeForce NOW to Firefox is a milestone moment — one of the world’s leading cloud gaming services, now running on a browser built for privacy, control and flexibility," adds head of Firefox Ajit Varma. "This is a big win for the Firefox community and for NVIDIA’s gaming community — and a sign of even bigger things ahead."

It seems this partnership will bring even more updates in the future, as Nvidia has confirmed that it will have more things to reveal at Gamescom. Moreover, the Firefox support update lands just a week after GeForce NOW added Linux as an officially supported platform with a native app.
