No End In Sight For The MCU With Projects Planned Until 2042
Look Away If You Have MCU Fatigue, As Marvel Has 16 Years Of Movies Planned
The MCU is about to experience its most important period since Avengers: Endgame, and it’s going to have to try and sustain that momentum this time. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has every intention of making that happen, with MCU projects mapped out all the way up until 2042.
16 More Years Of Marvel
That’s 16 years' worth of Marvel movies and TV shows somewhere between in production and in Feige’s head, as even the man himself admits that even though there are 16 years of projects in the pipeline, most of those plans are tentative, at best.
“We were just in a Marvel Studios meeting room, planning movies all the way up to 2042,” Feige told Watching Hollywood. “Whether we can make it to 2042? Who knows? Will it be those movies? Who knows? But this is how we approach and plan the vast amount of potential stories in the comics."
Feige could show us the MCU map from now until 2042, but given the reasons he outlines above and many more, that would invite trouble and inevitably lead to failure. In a perfect world, the plan Feige and Marvel have for the next 16 years of MCU projects will go as planned. That’s not going to happen, though. Plans will change, projects will be altered, and some will almost certainly be scrapped entirely, most before they ever even really existed.
Things Will Be Simpler After Secret Wars
If you have been struggling to keep track and stay interested in the MCU since Endgame, and the idea of trying to keep up with it for 16 more years gives you a headache, Feige has good news. After Secret Wars - which will be to Doomsday what Endgame was to Infinity War - there will be a “simplified, single universe that we can keep up with.”
“Some things will be familiar, but many, many things will be entirely new,” Feige adds when describing what that simplified new universe promises for the MCU. The X-Men are going to be a big part of that. Feige confirms as much, and we’ve also been shown a lot of them in the teasers and trailers for Doomsday. We know that Charles Xavier and Magneto will be back - albeit briefly based on the trailer - along with James Marsden’s Cyclops and Rebecca Romijn’s Mystique.
There are also big and exciting plans in store for Spider-Man. Feige confirmed that Miles Morales will finally join the live-action MCU; he just needs to wrap up his animated duties in Beyond the Spider-Verse. It’s unclear if Spider-Man: Brand New Day will spell the end for Tom Holland’s take on the hero or usher in a new beginning, but Feige confirmed he and Amy Pascal have discussed ideas for the next five Spidey movies.
