Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2's New Class Is Finally Confirmed — and It's Exactly What Everyone Suspected

Big news for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 fans today: publisher Focus Entertainment has revealed the game’s Year 3 roadmap and confirmed the new class set to hit early 2027.

Let’s get straight to the headline here: the new class is — as so many had suspected — the Apothecary. In May I predicted the addition of the Apothecary as a heavy duty support class with a powerful healing ability, perhaps even with unique gameplay around harvesting Gene-seed.

“We’ve been following all your speculations ever since we teased the arrival of a new class, and you certainly had plenty of theories… and the majority of you were right!” Focus said. “Today, we’re finally revealing the truth: the Apothecary is joining the ranks with Patch 17 in the first quarter of 2027! We’ll disclose more info later, so stay tuned!

“Additionally, as we said in the previous Community Update, the Apothecary will receive a Champion skin in the same way the Techmarine did: in the update after its release.”

That’s all we have on the Apothecary, unfortunately, but we have plenty more on Year 3. Patch 15 hits October 1, with Patch 16 out before the end of this year. The long-awaited Chaos Siege mode, which lets you to play Heretic Astartes previously exclusive to PvP, arrives with Patch 15, as does the One-Handed Thunder Hammer. Patch 16 adds a brand-new PvP mode featuring Weekly Stratagems, just like in PvE.

2027 will being the Apothecary, as mentioned, new Operations and weapons, and “reworks to several gameplay features, with improvements coming to some of the game’s core systems,” Focus said.

“Additionally, there are a couple of other cool features that are planned, but not listed in the roadmap,” the publisher teased.

Focus also teased new customization features by saying it’s “something that will expand customization options by 33%,” and “something that will put our streaming tech to a test.”

Meanwhile, Year 3 DLC includes five new Cosmetic and Champion Packs, with the final one remaining redacted for now.

Developer Saber Interactive is of course working on Space Marine 3, which Tim Willits recently teased in an interview with IGN from gamescom. There’s no release window yet, but there’s a great deal of anticipation for it following the breakout success of Space Marine 2, which has seen over 12 million players since its 2024 launch.
