It Looks Like Nintendo Is Already Planning More The Legend Of Zelda Movies
Nintendo might already be planning future The Legend of Zelda movies. Amid the casting announcements last night, Deadline also reported that Uli Latukefu had signed a "multi-picture deal" to play Ganondorf.
This lines up with what industry insider Daniel Richtman claimed last year. He alleged on his personal Patreon that Nintendo and Sony Pictures were planning a Zelda movie trilogy, and that all major roles would be signed on for three films over six years. Ganondorf certainly qualifies as a 'major role.'
We can only speculate on what games the movies will adapt, or more likely, incorporate into the story. Judging by leaked set photos and the official reveals of Link and Zelda, it appears to be a mix of different games from across the franchise, much like the two Mario movies. Though as with Galaxy, the movies may loosely follow an existing story.
Fans have noted Breath of the Wild motifs on some of the clothing and armor, and that the green tunic appears to be inspired by Twilight Princess. Impa, played by Dichen Lachman, is also closer in appearance to her Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword counterparts, rather than the old woman we meet in BOTW.
What Might A Zelda Trilogy Look Like?

Puzzling together a Zelda timeline is something you're better poring through hours of Game Theory videos for, but if Nintendo really is building toward a trilogy, one possibility is that it begins with Link meeting the Deku Tree, leaving Kakariko or Ordon Village, and finding the Master Sword to defeat Ganondorf, showing us Hyrule in its prime. The sequel could then see Hyrule engulfed in Twilight, or Link finding himself in Termina, adopting a slightly darker tone. This hypothetical trilogy would culminate with Ganondorf sealed away and Hyrule in ruins, with Link on a quest to reforge the Triforce.
Or it might do none of those things. All we know so far is that director Wes Ball is hoping to capture the feeling of a live-action Hayao Miyazaki film. What elements of the series might inform the story is anyone's guess — he could take a wholly original direction, telling his own narrative separate from any of the games. Still, with multiple movies on the table, it's fun to imagine how Ball might try to weave a more cohesive story than we're used to with Zelda.
The Legend of Zelda releases on April 30, 2027.
