Fragonard's The Swing Reimagined In 3D With Minions

Juhee Park, also known as Kirby, has unveiled a hilarious yet beautifully executed project that puts a new spin on Jean-Honoré Fragonard's famous Rococo painting The Swing by adding Minions. Her goal was to capture the romantic feeling of the original artwork and transform it into a stylized 3D world with the help of Maya, Arnold, and Nuke.

The artist also shared a few insights into her creative process:

"To recreate the rich, soft forest tones of the original painting, I used Arnold's Directional Light as my primary sun source. To get that natural, dappled sunlight filtering through the canopy, I actively used Gobos and custom Plan shapes to break up the light realistically.

To achieve the signature dreamy, painterly depth of classical art, I added Atmosphere Volume. This allowed me to shape beautiful light shafts and establish a soft aerial perspective for the deep forest in the background.

Beyond texturing, I wanted the characters to feel truly alive. I focused heavily on my light placement and attenuation to highlight the Subsurface Scattering (SSS), giving the Minions their signature soft, squishy, 'jelly-like' skin texture under the forest light."
