Rush is Real Has a Never-Before-Seen Core Mechanic That Will Redefine 'Player Motivation'

Earlier this year, an all-new studio emerged called Nomion Games, founded by former Escape from Tarkov developers. The studio’s first project already has a title, Rush is Real, but we haven’t found out too much about the game. In a recent interview, the game’s creator and Creative Director, Jean Tyulegenov, explained the foundational pull behind Rush is Real.

From what we’ve been told, the game has a beating heart in the form of a fresh, original mechanic that no other game has done before, and it’s centered around player motivation. That’s an intriguing concept, but there’s no way of knowing how long it’ll be until that mechanic is revealed.

Nomion Games Wants Rush is Real to Change Gaming

In an interview with the folks at Nomion Games, Jean Tyulegenov, who was once the second-most-important developer at Battlestate Games, working on Escape from Tarkov, said:

Within this new project, I want to try and rebuild the core mechanism of player motivation.

A lot of studios just copy the key mechanics of successful projects and slap on their own improvements, like a better UI or making it less tedious. With Rush is Real, we want to take a different path – building the game around a brand-new mechanic that isn’t copied from anywhere else, while embedding that mechanic into familiar shooting, progression, and so on.

We know that Rush is Real will be a shooter, but in what capacity, we have no idea.

Tyulegenov went on to explain the mission behind Rush is Real. It’s all about making a game that is a ‘source of emotion for people’, supporting them, allowing them to relax and enjoy a game, and hitting a real human nerve with players.

He said:

I also want to touch upon other, sometimes complex issues – class inequality, our addiction to stimuli and the inability to live in peace, or technological progress without moral and cultural progress. Or, for instance, the moral responsibility of the observer of an event – in our case, the game.

I’d love for the spectator, whether in-game or on Twitch, to become part of the event and be able to indirectly influence what’s happening in the match, like for their favorite streamer. Just like in football, where people say “the walls help” – meaning the support and chanting of the fans boosts the team’s morale and helps them score goals. We are brainstorming mechanics like this for Rush is Real.

That tells us a bit more about Rush is Real. Referring to certain elements such as ‘spectator’, ‘match’, and ‘streamer’ suggests that there could be a competitive element to the game. It could be a first-person shooter engineered for a high-stakes esports scene, or it could be a frenetic game with fast gunplay that promotes exciting viewing.

This is all speculation, but the hope is that Nomion Games reveals something meaty fairly soon. It must be a great concept, as it warranted the resignation of three tenured developers from Battlestate Games to open this new studio and build it.
