Black Cat's New Costume Is a Gift to Marvel Cosplayers
Black Cat cosplayers are in for a real treat, as Marvel has unveiled a stunning new costume for the iconic Spider-Man character that would feel right at home not only at your next Comic-Con, but at a Renaissance faire as well.
This summer, Marvel Comics launched one of its most ambitious reimaginings of the Marvel Universe in Realmguard Infinity Comic. This limited series stands out among Marvel’s bibliography, as it reimagines the Marvel Universe through a high-fantasy lens, giving some of its most iconic characters fantastical new identities and designs.
For Marvel fans who also enjoy DC Comics, this premise will likely sound familiar, given that DC launched its own high-fantasy Elseworlds series in 2021 with writer Tom Taylor and artist Yasmine Putri’s Dark Knights of Steel. The series brought epic, high-fantasy-inspired redesigns and origin stories to the comic publisher’s most iconic heroes and villains, and was so popular among fans that it even earned a Deathstroke-starring spin-off, Dark Knights of Steel: Allwinter, by writer Jay Kristoff and artist Tirso.
Taylor’s original series has also returned this year in Dark Knights of Steel II, but this time, artist Otto Schmidt is bringing high fantasy to the DC Universe rather than fan-favorite artist Putri. With Dark Knights of Steel becoming one of DC’s best-selling Elseworlds tales, it’s no surprise that Marvel would also want to try its hand at a similar alternate universe. It’s in this fantastical alternate universe that Black Cat has debuted a high-fantasy redesign that is truly a gift to cosplayers.
Marvel's Fantasy Black Cat Costume Is Purr-fect Cosplay Inspiration
Comic Page Comes from Preeti Chhibber's Realmguard Infinity Comic #1 (2026) - Art by Lorenzo Tammetta & Rod Fernandes
From the creative talents of writer Preeti Chhibber, artist Lorenzo Tammetta, and colorist Rod Fernandes comes Marvel’s Realmguard Infinity Comic limited series. First released on July 1, 2026, the series notably introduced Peter Parker, Tony Stark, Mary Jane Watson, and Felicia “Black Cat” Hardy to this fantastical new version of the Marvel Universe. While all four characters remain recognizable, the high-fantasy setting gives them epic redesigns, with some even receiving new codenames.
For example, rather than Spider-Man or Iron Man, Peter and Tony go by Silk-Tongued Spider and Iron Mechanist, respectively, in this universe. While Felicia wasn’t given a new codename and still goes by Black Cat, she did receive a fantasy redesign that gives the sometimes-villainous, sometimes-heroic character a delightfully roguish look.
Black Cat remains instantly recognizable thanks to Tammetta and Fernandes, who preserve her physical appearance and signature black-and-white color scheme. However, rather than her typical skin-tight catsuit, she dons a reimagined outfit that would feel right at home on the classic rogue of any fantasy story or Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
Because the attire is perfectly suited to a fantasy setting while still keeping Felicia instantly recognizable as Black Cat, it makes for particularly great cosplay inspiration. Fans could essentially get two costumes out of one, as this look would work just as well at a Comic-Con as it would at a Renaissance faire, while remaining completely on theme for both events.
Beyond that duality, the costume is also a great way for Black Cat cosplayers to shake up their usual attire and stand out among other cosplayers, especially since Felicia’s signature main-universe catsuit is typically her go-to look. The fact that this fantasy redesign even features little black cat ears makes it all the more distinctive and, frankly, a very fun take on Black Cat.
In the kingdom of Kironia, a high-fantasy version of the Marvel Universe, traveling bards known as the Silk-Tongued Spider (Peter Parker) and Lady Jackpot (Mary Jane) find themselves separated and caught in a plot involving a burned village, a missing prince, and a false king! In this web of lies and conflict, will Peter and Mary Jane be able to find each other again?
