New LEGO PS1 Console Details Emerge in Latest Report
New information on LEGO’s upcoming version of the original PlayStation console has come to light. Earlier this month, a reputable insider revealed that a LEGO PS1 set is planned to be released by the brand in early October. While this news on its own was quite exciting, specifics of what the brickified iteration of the PS1 would actually look like were relatively unknown. Now, in advance of the set officially being unveiled by LEGO, we have a better idea of what to expect.
Coming by way of Brick Tap, a wave of new details tied to the LEGO PS1 have been unveiled. In terms of its scale, the insider claimed that this LEGO version of the PS1 will be 26cm wide and 17cm tall. This puts it relatively in-line with the size of the original PS1 itself, which makes this model nearly a one-to-one scale. As for the controller that will also come with this set, it’s said to be based on the original PS1 gamepad. This means that the DualShock controller, which launched later in the PS1’s life cycle and notably included thumbsticks, will not be recreated in LEGO form.
Likely the most prominent new information tied to this set, though, is that it will feature callbacks to two major franchises/games that are associated with the PS1. Brick Tap claims that the LEGO PS1 will be able to pull apart at the sides to reveal a pair of dioramas tied to Ape Escape and Gran Turismo. Further details on what these dioramas might look like weren’t provided, but there is a possibility that it could contain minifigures tied to Ape Escape. In this same vein, it has also been reported that the LEGO PS1 is “full of Easter eggs” that longtime PlayStation fans will undoubtedly recognize.
As for the promotion tied to a standalone Astro Bot set that was previously claimed to be given away to anyone who purchased the PS1 set, Brick Tap says that this promo might no longer be happening. Instead, LEGO could be looking to release its Astro Bot playset in a standalone capacity. While this would be a bit of a disappointment, there’s still the chance that it could come for free to those who buy the PS1 model directly from LEGO.
As for the release and price of this LEGO PS1, it’s said to be arriving on October 1st at a cost of $160. In total, the set will contain 1,911 pieces, which makes it one of the better releases that LEGO has had so far in 2026 based on its price-per-piece. Given that the LEGO PS1 is said to be launching so soon, we should see it announced in an official capacity at some point in the coming days or weeks.
