Marvel Tokon's Infamous PC Port Has Reportedly Made A Big Impact On Its Launch Sales
Alinea Analytics reports that Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has had a decent sales start, but would have done even better if the PC port wasn’t so controversial.
As I made very clear in my review, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is an excellent tag fighter that does pretty much everything right, from its gorgeous visuals to its amazing starting roster. Arc System Works has once again proven that it’s the best in the business, and its glowing reviews from other outlets cement that.
That being said, Marvel Tokon’s victory lap has sadly been overruled by all of the controversy that its broken PC port has caused over the past week. One analytics firm has predicted that the massive backlash towards the PC port of the game has had a noticeable impact on its otherwise decent launch sales.
Marvel Tokon Has Reportedly Sold Nearly 500,000 Copies In A Week
That’s A Good Start, But It Could Have Been Better
Alinea Analytics, who is one of the more trusted sources when it comes to gaming sales figures, recently shared a report on Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls’ launch performance. The report claims that the game has sold roughly 485K copies and made $33 million in revenue so far, with 74 percent of sales coming from the PS5 version.
That means that only 26 percent of sales come from the Steam version, which is undoubtedly due to the poor reception. Even before Marvel Tokon actually launched, its open beta had everyone fearing for the PC port’s performance at launch, which turned out to be just as bad. Alinea says that the reviews indicate a lot of “bounce-and-refund” players on PC.
All told, Alinea Analytics predicts that the negative first impressions for Marvel Tokon have ended up impacting its overall launch sales, and that it “might have sold closer to 1M” if the port hadn’t been such a problem and “word of mouth” wasn’t cut short. Nearly 500K in a week is still good, but Tokon could have done much better. Here's hoping there's a long tail like Saros.
