YouTuber tests new Cyberpunk 2077 third person mode and the results are outstanding

A brand new third person mod for Cyberpunk 2077 is making the rounds on the internet, and players are demonstrating the improvements that have come in with this new release.

Although it launched with only a first person mode, Cyberpunk 2077 players have used mods over the years to unlock the game’s camera view to play from a third-person perspective.

The results have been, let’s say, less than satisfactory. Because animations were built for first-person mode, it brings some rather funky scenes when you try to move the camera away from the player’s body.

Thankfully, you can say goodbye to nightmarish bulky arms and bizarre running poses thanks to this new mod which introduces decent third-person animations to Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077's new third-person animations are completely separate from first-person

This new video uploaded by YouTuber BleeeGMV has proved that good third-person animations in Cyberpunk 2077 are possible, showing off a variety of different animations and movements for each action you can take.

The video starts with a jogging animation, in which the player character is running down a pavement in Night City. The animation shows the character is running in a determined way, but doesn’t look janky or awkward. Their arms go forward and backwards naturally, and it looks like a pretty decent third-person animation as a result.

The video also shows what this looks like when running up or down stairs. Pretty similar, it turns out, but there are a few subtle changes in momentum to indicate that the character is on a flight of stairs.

This then changes to a short clip of the player standing in place and looking around. Their character looks at the surroundings and turns their head in place on the spot, which is a cool detail. There are also a few additional idle animations, including one where the character raises their hand and inspects it.

The video then cuts to a slow walk animation, and shows off the character with a heavy swagger as they journey through a populated area. A similar amount of care and detail is present here, too.

We then cut to a sprinting animation, which looks a lot faster than the first-person sprint. However, this may only be due to the animation and FOV change that helps the illusion that the player is running faster than they actually are.

The video ends with a demonstration of what traversal looks like in third-person, particularly when vaulting or climbing over short ledges. The character actually reaches out and pulls themselves up, and even does a Lara Croft-style handstand as they climb up.

The video does not demonstrate what combat looks like in third-person, probably because they’re unfinished and clunky to use in third-person. Mod creator CybrDrake also says that these animations are mostly complete for female V at the moment, while male V’s are not yet done.

If you want to try this out for yourself, download the Immersive Third Person animations mod now for Cyberpunk 2077 from Nexus Mods.

You can also switch between first-person and third-person at any time, in case you need to go back into the vanilla point of view for any reason.
