Since 2020, Sam has written over 2,500 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game.

Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, got context around some AI drama, and revealed how Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games.

Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on more than one occasion.

He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times

Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises.

Yesterday, Rockstar stared down the barrel of another huge Grand Theft Auto 6 leak. Following 2022's leak, which forced the company to release the game's first trailer early, someone has revealed significant portions of the gameplay, along with the heavily speculated-on Leonida map.

These gameplay portions have been enough to get potential GTA 6 fans excited, and they've been combing through them to discern as much information as they can. And we've broken it down for you here.

Grand Theft Auto 6's Finer Details Are Coming To Light Thanks To Eagle-Eyed Fans

Since it leaked, fans have been reviewing every frame of GTA 6 gameplay footage, trying to spot any new features or mechanics. These have been shared online with excitement ahead of the game's major Netflix showcase next week. We've broken down some of the most interesting pieces of information for you below:

Physical Injuries During Hand-To-Hand Combat

One scene in the new GTA 6 leaks shows Jason throwing a hefty punch at somebody who looks like a construction worker. When paused at the right moment, you can see the damage the protagonist's swing has caused, with the worker having a hefty cut at the point of impact.

We're, of course, used to blood from the weapons used in previous Grand Theft Auto games, but this level of dynamic injury seems to be a new feature for GTA 6.

The Cops Are Hunting You For Your Specific Crimes

The Wanted rating is one of the most iconic mechanics in the Grand Theft Auto series. Commit a crime, the police come after you, evade them or commit more crimes, and that rating goes up.

Naturally, that's not going anywhere in Grand Theft Auto 6, but new symbols below the infamous Wanted Stars show exactly what the police are hunting you down for.

The Attention To Detail While In Cars

It looks like GTA 6 is going to take attention to detail to the next level.

Two different moments in car scenes have been picked up that epitomize this. First, Jason adjusts his rear-view mirror as he drives away, making sure he has the best view of what's behind him. Then, an NPC comes to speak to him, winding down their window to do so. Rockstar is thinking of everything.

Fuel Up, Driver

While we're on the topic of cars, it looks like they'll become a bit of a bother.

As well as maintaining the condition of the car, a GTA staple, you'll seemingly need to refuel when the gas level gets too low in your ride.

Intense New Physics System

Given how much care Rockstar is putting into Grand Theft Auto 6, you'd expect the physics to be impressive. The leaked footage shows the company has taken it to a level previously unparalleled.

At one point, Jason hurdles a shelving rack, with each item on it moving in its own way.

Reputation And Honor

It certainly looks like GTA 6 is going to be riffing on Red Dead Redemption 2's honor and morality system.

In a scene where Jason is seen brutalizing a citizen, a purple devil face appears next to him, implying that he has done something a little immoral. It's unclear how much this will impact the game as a whole, but it's suggested it could be tied to the social networking we've seen in previous trailers.

There's a lot to unpack, and more will almost certainly come to light, but if not, we have the huge reveal next Thursday on Netflix, which will certainly whet the appetite for what's in store when the game releases in November.
