When is CoD MW4 beta? Confirmed start date and what to expect

As is tradition these days, before we get our hands on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, we're going to get a beta where you can try the game out for the first time.

Whether you've already pre-ordered the game, or are just jumping in to see what it's like, everyone is going to get the chance to give it a go – even Nintendo Switch 2 players!

We don't know a huge amount about what's to come in the beta, but we have a rough idea based on what we've seen in previous games.

So, with that, here's what you need to know about the CoD MW4 beta start date and what to expect.

When is the CoD MW4 beta start date?

The CoD MW4 early access beta begins on 21 August, while the open beta begins on 28 August. The entire beta period will run in two separate windows across two consecutive weekends.

The first weekend will host the CoD MW4 early access beta, which runs from 21-25 August, and is only available to players who have pre-ordered the game on Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.

The second weekend will feature a full open beta, running from 28 August-1 September, and will be open to all players on all platforms including Nintendo Switch 2. There is no pre-order required, nor any kind of pre-registration.

CoD MW4 beta: what to expect?

As mentioned, nothing has been confirmed about the beta yet, but you can expect it to include a small selection of weapons, maps, and modes. Likely around half a dozen across each category. This multiplayer will likely let you rank up to around level 15 to 20, similar to other games in recent years.

Expect new progression, maps, and modes being added throughout the weeks, though we may have to wait until the beta actually launches before we get specifics.
