Starfield Could Have Been Hiding A Big Elder Scrolls 6 Secret

It Turns Out, Starfield May Have Teased The Elder Scrolls 6's Name Years Ago

Since 2020, Sam has written over 2,500 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game.

Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, got context around some AI drama, and revealed how Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games.

Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on more than one occasion.

He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times

Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises.

Two days ago, new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma set the Elder Scrolls fanbase on fire. After years upon years of silence, she revealed she had watched footage of the game, saying that "the scale and grandeur are incredible. The story is even greater."

Her message also included a tease that seemed to suggest The Elder Scrolls 6 would have an eight-letter subtitle, sending fans into a frenzy as they tried to figure out exactly what it could be.

Earlier today, reports surfaced that a former Bethesda employee confirmed the most popular prediction, The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel, and it looks like the game's developers have been teasing that for a few years now.

Gamers will do anything to try to discern information about their most anticipated games. We saw Hollow Knight: Silksong fans go rabid last year, and Grand Theft Auto fans are doing the same for the sixth game, using celestial bodies and objects of clothing to figure out when new information may come to pass.

Often, these are highly speculative, tinfoil-hat theories that lead to nothing; however, this one about The Elder Scrolls 6's title may just have some legs.

As initially spotted by starfieldnovember on Reddit, a Starfield Direct stream on June 11, 2023, made a hidden reference to the word "sentinel", and it went completely unnoticed until now.

When showing off Starfield's character creator, an employee number is seen at the bottom of the screen. This number is: 1905142009140512. When each number is broken down into pairs, like this: 19|05|14|20|09|14|05|12, and then tied to its corresponding place in the alphabet, you get the word Sentinel.

It's way too much of a coincidence to have just happened, so Bethesda must have been teasing something, and The Elder Scrolls 6 subtitle seems to fit this exact bill. The company has a history of doing similar things, too.

When marketing the Fallout TV show, there was a hidden phone number you could call to get an Easter egg, and it has also often released mysterious videos teasing upcoming games. Touché, Bethesda.
