Steam users cautioned as new free RPG hit with 'do not play' warning

If you’re a regular around these parts, then you’ll likely be very familiar with the fact that our belief is that PC storefront Steam is a treasure trove of free treats.

There, you can find free games galore and we’re often telling you which are worth your while.

Today though, it’s time for the opposite as a new free RPG has surfaced that looks a little too good to be true - and by all accounts, it is.

If you enjoy, like us, attempting to unearth the latest free-to-play hit, you may find yourself tempted to sample Adventurers Guild.

Developed by AG Studio, this free RPG is just a few days old. Its trailer looks incredibly promising.

Within it, player characters explore a cartoon fantasy open-world accompanied by Pokémon-esque creatures.

Gameplay clips evidence ruin exploration, creature combat, boss fights, fishing, mining, base building, and more.

It looks, on paper, like the perfect blend of Palworld, Pokémon, Final Fantasy, and Monster Hunter, all presented in one cozy package.

If something feels too good to be true though, it often is.

Adventurers Guild’s gameplay trailer is not at all representative of the game

Adventurers Guild doesn’t actually feature any screenshots that reflect what it offers, with next to nothing on the Steam listing resembling what’s in the trailer.

It’s even stranger that there’s a “customer service” email address in the game’s ‘about’ section that’s seemingly just a random guy’s outlook address.

Why we can’t say exactly what’s going on here, something feels off.

The only other game from the supposed AG Studio is Farmshore: Out Past the Horizon which isn’t out yet. It looks like a weird Grand Theft Auto and Stardew Valley hybrid.

There are no details about an AG Studio available online - and reviews confirm that we’re right to be suspicious about this one.

“The trailer baited me in which made it look like a mix between Palworld and GW2. Unfortunately, it plays nothing like the trailer. It's just another P2W mobile auto play game,” said one player.

“Scam with botted/paid/affiliate positive reviews. Blatant false advertising. Wouldn't surprise me if it was a virus. Like many others have said, STAY AWAY! Be sure to report/flag this game to have it taken down,” added another.

“Trailer looks nothing like what it actually is,” echoed someone else, while another review read, “Do not download or play this game [...] Without exception, every single screenshot and all shown gameplay scenes in the video are FAKE! Even the shown screen aspect ratio is FAKE!”

It just proves that you need to remain savvy while shopping for free titles as there may be some games out there hoping to take advantage of your curiosity.

Adventurers Guild may just be a poorly made pay-to-win title with heavily misleading marketing, hoping you’ll buy into its in-game purchases.

Other free Steam releases have been known to store malware and viruses. There’s no evidence to say that’s happening here yet, but we’d reccomended approaching with caution as there’s clearly an attempt to mislead.
