You Feed Your Enemies Instead of Killing Them in This Deckbuilding Pixel-Art Adventure

Hungry Horrors is a game inspired by British and Irish folklore where you escape scary creatures like Dullahan and Jenny Greenteeth by killing them with your Michelin-level cooking skills.

Hungry Horrors is Clumsy Bear Studio's deck-building adventure inspired by British and Irish folklore that lets you be merciful toward your enemies: instead of killing them left and right, you feed them.

In the game, you're just a bratty little princess who wants to chill in her castle, but a horrible curse spreads across your kingdom, awakening the scary dragon and letting numerous terrifying folklore creatures, Horrors, loose. To save your homeland, you need to up your cooking game and feed the Horrors so that they leave you and your people alone.

Everything you see in the game is inspired by British and Irish culture. The Horrors you run into are based on mythical folklore creatures: nuckelavee, a skinless horse-and-human creature from the Orkney Islands; Fad Felen, a literal walking Yellow Plague from Wales; marool, a sea monster with countless eyes from Northern Scotland, and others.

The dishes you feed them include British and Irish staples like cranachan (a dessert made with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and whisky), rumbledethumps (a mashed potato bake with cabbage and onions), cullen skink (a creamy soup with smoked haddock, potatoes, and onions), and more.

To cook your weapons, you need to collect cookware, spices, and artifacts as you go. With seasonings, you can upgrade your dishes to make sure the Horrors don't spit them out and chew you up instead – no, literally, those things are surprisingly picky and endlessly hungry.

The game has two modes: a story-driven campaign and a punishing Banquet roguelike. In the game, you'll encounter 34 folklore Horrors, meet 13 legendary characters like Herne the Hunter and the Wulver, and cook 62 dishes based on real traditional recipes. There are 8 gorgeous playable biomes based on real locations from the British Isles for you to explore. The game features a dreamy original score composed by Henry Taylor.

The game was developed by Clumsy Bear Studio, a self-funded two-person indie studio. After 2.5 years in development, the game is finally leaving Early Access on October 13. It is currently available on Steam for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Console versions for PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch are planned for the full release, developers state.
