The wonderful world of Lufia is back, and this time, it's coming to PC. Just revealed in the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct was the world premiere of Lufia 1 & 2 The Sinistrals Saga—the iconic RPGs will be coming to Steam in 2027, marking the first time any games in the series will be officially available on PC.
If you weren't around in the early '90s, you may not know about Lufia. The original, Lufia & the Fortress of Doom, came out in 1993 in Japan and North America—it skipped Europe entirely. Its opening is pretty unforgettable, as it instantly puts you in the shoes of the heroes of a legend, fighting four godlike enemies called the Sinistrals. It's a bold way to start a game.
Wishlist Lufia 1 & 2 The Sinistrals Saga on Steam
Release date: November 16, 2026
Lufia 1 & 2 The Sinistrals Saga bring the first two games in the iconic RPG series into one convenient package. This is the first time these games will have an official PC release, so be sure to wishlist on Steam.
For the rest of the game, you play as one of the descendants of those heroes, fighting the same evil that returns almost 100 years after the game's opening. Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals is actually a prequel where you play as the original heroes you get a glimpse of at the start of the first game.
It's a pretty big deal that these RPGs will finally be available on PC, as they're hard to get ahold of in their original formats. Lufia 1 was only released on the SNES, and physical copies can run into the hundreds of pounds. Lufia 2 came out on the SNES as well, but it also got a DS release that switched it into an action RPG.
Taito producer Yuichi Toyama says the team started looking into the rights for the project four or five years ago after fans clamoured for the series to be revived. This should be a remake done as close to the originals as possible. "Emulation as close to the original game as possible" was the goal, Clear River Games producer James Wragg says.
So, if you want to experience a piece of RPG history, you can wishlist Lufia 1 & 2 The Sinistrals Saga on Steam. Both games are being packaged in one purchase, so you can play through the whole Sinistrals story without having to dig up a hard-to-find or expensive physical copy.
