Doctor Doom Makes Unexpected New Appearance Before Avengers: Doomsday
Doctor Doom Arrives In Marvel Cosmic Invasion Ahead Of Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel synergy is at an all-time high between movies, TV shows, and video games lately, especially concerning the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. Doctor Doom has been fairly rampant for the last little while, for instance, making his most recent appearance as one of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls’ playable roster characters.
There’s a non-zero chance that this iconic Marvel supervillain’s popularity and ubiquitousness have skyrocketed because of Doctor Doom making his MCU debut this upcoming holiday season, where he’ll be played by none other than Robert Downey Jr. in the newest Avengers blockbuster. However, this isn’t the only Doctor Doom appearance fans have to look forward to before the end of the year.
On Twitter/X, Marvel Cosmic Invasion has recently announced its new DLC, titled The Siege of Castle Doom, releasing sometime this fall. This DLC will feature a new game mode, as well as two new playable characters.
No further details are shared besides a mention that there will be “more info coming soon!” Knowing that we’re headed to Castle Doom in Latveria’s Doomstadt, though, it wouldn’t be at all surprising if this DLC has players battle waves of Doombots in a lavish, medieval fortress before tackling Doctor Doom as the final boss of the game mode, which might be named eponymously after the DLC itself.
Who Marvel Cosmic Invasion has cherry-picked as its two newest playable characters will be exciting to learn, too. Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s Cyclops and Thing were phenomenal additions that scratched an itch for X-Men and Fantastic Four fans, and it’s anyone’s guess who could be added next.
If these two characters are meant to be tangentially related to Doctor Doom, it’s possible we may see Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman join Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s character roster. That said, two characters from one Marvel affiliation/team might be a bit of an oversaturation, and Marvel Cosmic Invasion pairing Cyclops and Thing in its shadow-dropped update suggests we’ll see another pairing of a character who has a standard model with a character who has a larger model.
Likewise, Marvel Cosmic Invasion may simply want to indulge in MCU synergy for Avengers: Doomsday further by pairing two Marvel characters that’ll appear in the movie and have not been added to the roster yet, such as Gambit, Shang-Chi, or Ant-Man. Either way, it’ll be great to see Marvel Cosmic Invasion’s iteration of Doctor Doom.
Marvel Cosmic Invasion: The Siege of Castle Doom is scheduled to be released for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in fall 2026.
