Star Wars Genesis Is The Ultimate Open-World Sci-Fi RPG
Star Wars fans are used to feast-or-famine when it comes to gaming tie-ins. In the retro era, there were plenty of platformers to peruse across multiple systems, but even then, there were a ton of great Star Wars games mixed in with some poor adaptations. While there are a few that get universal praise, like Knights of the Old Republic, others, like Masters of Teras Kasi, often retreat to the lower trenches of fandom rankings.
However, there are so many projects that they can also fly under fans' radars. At any given time, it's common for one or two Star Wars games to be in development, even if they never come out. Star Wars Genesis is available now, and it's an impressive effort.
Star Wars Genesis Is By Fans, For Fans
In case you haven't heard, Star Wars Genesis is a work-in-progress total conversion for Bethesda's Starfield. Note that this isn't just a single total conversion mod, but an actual modlist, consisting of tons of fixes, changes, and thematic alterations to morph Starfield into a Star Wars open world RPG.
On their official website, the team explains that Genesis "uses the engine and framework of Starfield" to craft its own Star Wars RPG. The entire game has been transformed, and new content has been added, like quests. The structure is going to be similar, but pretty much everything else has been revamped, including dialogue, to suit the Star Wars feel and keep things immersive.
Right now, 20% of all of Starfield's quests have been fully converted to the Star Wars Genesis project. There's more work to do before everything is complete, which is why community-run efforts have multiple hands chipping in. Genesis is actually an advanced modlist, consisting of multiple mods that change Starfield into a Star Wars experience.
Star Wars And Starfield Are A Match Made In Heaven
The team also explains that Star Wars Genesis is "never coming to Xbox/Creations" and that there is "no scenario" in which that will happen in the future. The creator even chimes in to say it isn't possible to install it on PC Game Pass or Microsoft's versions of Starfield.

- Xbox has a 100 GB modlist limit, and Genesis is almost double that
- Creations has a 2 GB limit for individual mods, and Genesis has many mods above that limit
- Creations does not allow loose files, while the functionality of Genesis depends on loose files due to the BA2 limit of Starfield
- Sound replacement mods don’t work properly on Xbox
- Creations doesn’t support SFSE mods, which half of Genesis depends on.
- Creations does not have an automatic modlist installer, which is the only realistic way Genesis would ever be installed
Even if you don't like Starfield, you might want to give Star Wars Genesis a try, especially if you're a Star Wars fan and have an errant copy of Starfield lying around. Even if you don't partake now, there's plenty of time to make up your mind.
