Kirby: A World Beyond revealed as Nintendo’s next 3D platformer, and it has a release window lined up

Nintendo has revealed Kirby: A World Beyond as the iconic gaming company’s next 3D platformer, and a release date window has already been confirmed for the title.

The little pink blob’s new adventure was revealed during Nintendo Direct today (9 September 2026), with the reveal trailer taking the hallowed spot as the 'one last thing' at the end of the presentation.

This writer had been hoping that a 3D Mario game might be revealed in the showcase, but no dice. First Donkey Kong Bananza and now this - who did Mario upset at Nintendo HQ to keep getting overlooked?

Of course, Kirby is no stranger to the third dimension, with 2022's Kirby and the Forgotten Land - in which Kirby could eat cars, vending machines and flights of stairs to gain new abilities - still being fairly fresh in the memory.

Kirby: A World Beyond is confirmed to launch in spring 2027, so we’d hope to see it in April or May next year. As soon as an official date is confirmed, we’ll be sure to let you know!

In terms of platforms, it looks like Kirby: A World Beyond will be a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, as the previous hardware generation was not mentioned in any of the official social posts and other such promotional copy.

The reveal trailer, which you can watch below, was an eye-catching affair, including a memorable segment where Kirby transformed into Link from The Legend of Zelda and began swinging a massive Master Sword around.

Of course, it’s not all about 3D, even in this modern age. During the same presentation, Nintendo also revealed Metroid Ravenous, the next 2D game in that iconic franchise.

All of this follows a completely separate Zelda presentation that took place yesterday (8 September), where fans were treated to an extended look at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, which also had its release date confirmed.

The Ocarina of Time remake’s interesting visual style certainly got fans talking, and not all of it was positive, but there was plenty of nostalgic hype in the mix as well.

Clearly, Nintendo has big plans to keep treating its fans to big new games on the regular, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted as we hear more about all of these upcoming video games.
