How To Get Dozens Of The Best Free Mystery, Crime, & Thriller Books This Weekend Only
Rose Graceling-Moore is an author, poet, project manager and content manager, who has been writing about film, TV and comics since 2013, when she began writing for a local print magazine in Vancouver, BC. Since then, Rose has written for Horror Honeys, Moviepilot and Quirkbooks as well as Screenrant, initially focusing on comics and superheros, before moving into a focus on broader TV coverage, as well as diversity and representation on screen. Rose also co-hosted the DC Movies Podcast, and has guested on other nerd and entertainment podcasts over the past ten years. Rose’s love of comics began all the way back in the early ‘90s, when she discovered the X-Men while living in Africa (where there wasn’t a whole lot to do but read!), and since then has had an on-again, off-again love affair with not just Marvel, but DC and indie comics as well.
Mystery and Crime novels are having a well-deserved moment, thanks to the sheer number of adaptations that are becoming smash-hit TV series. Reacher, the ever-expanding Bosch universe, Scarpetta, The Beast In Me, The Terminal List, The Night Agent... the list continues to grow, and with good reason.
The tension, the pacing, the action - these are books designed to keep a reader on the edge of their seat, and to mimic the heart-pounding adrenaline rush of the best action movies. Often dark, there's also a great joy to knowing that (usually), questions will be answered, bad guys captured, and everything resolved in the end.
In many ways, they are the perfect summer read, especially as the season shifts to fall, and this month starts with an opportunity to dig into dozens of free mystery, crime, and thriller ebooks, entirely for free - and that's just the start of the August Stuff Your Kindle deals.
The Mystery Collection Is So Much More Than Just Mysteries
The first free ebook event in August is the Mystery and Crime Collection by BookBelow, with subgenres ranging from Mysteries to Crime, Thrillers, Suspense and more. The event listings launch at 6am MST, and unfortunately, there isn't a way to browse them in advance, however, with two days to download, there's plenty of time to find the best additions.
Every Other Stuff Your Kindle Event In August 2026
As usual, there are multiple Book Blast and Stuff Your Kindle events throughout August across a range of genres. This month features a Kids Stuff Your Kindle, which is less common as a genre for free book events, as well as the more common multi-genre, romance, sci-fi, and fantasy events. And while Pride month may have passed, the 2nd Annual Sapphic Shelf Explosion, as part of Year Of Queer Lit, is also happening this month.
- 5th - KidsStuff Your Kindle hosted by Amy Doslich Books, focusing on children's books
- 5-8 - Stuff Your E-Reader hosted by The Indie Author Collective, this is a general all-genre event
- 5-6 - BUZZFEST hosted by The Indie Author Hive, this is a multi-genre event
