Hello Kitty's Biggest Crossover Of All Time Is Coming To Disney+
Custom Image by Ana NievesHello Kitty has appeared in countless collaborations over the decades, but one of her biggest family-friendly crossovers is about to reach an even wider audience. After first launching online, CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends is officially making its way to Disney+, bringing together two of the world's most recognizable children's brands in a single animated series that will be accessible on the streaming platform.
Beginning August 4, Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream the musical preschool series featuring Hello Kitty alongside fellow Sanrio favorites including My Melody, Kuromi, Cinnamoroll, and Pompompurin, according to Disney+'s Press Page. The arrival marks another major milestone for Sanrio's expanding entertainment lineup, which has enjoyed an especially busy 2026.
CoComelon and Sanrio Unite And Bring Their Series To Disney+
CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends debuted on YouTube several months before this Disney+ announcement, making the transition to streaming surprisingly quickly. The series blends CoComelon's educational format with Sanrio's iconic cast, creating short adventures designed specifically for preschool audiences and their families to enjoy.
Each episode runs for approximately three minutes and combines singalongs, interactive games, simple stories, and playful activities. The familiar CoComelon characters, including JJ, are redesigned with a distinctly Sanrio-inspired look, giving the crossover a fresh new look for both franchises while preserving the charm that made them both global successes.
The educational focus also remains intact. Rather than relying solely on cute character interactions, the CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends series focuses on emotional development through lessons about kindness, cooperation, friendship, and sharing. Gentle storytelling and music encourage participation, continuing CoComelon's long-running mission of introducing early learning concepts through entertaining, easy-to-follow episodes.
A Huge Year for Hello Kitty Continues
The Disney+ debut arrives during an exceptionally active period for Sanrio. Earlier this year, Hello Kitty announced a comic series and Hello Kitty and Friends Supercute Adventures returned with its thirteenth season, introducing the beloved Little Twin Stars to the animated web series and expanding its already sizable roster of fan-favorite characters.
Executives behind the collaboration believe this partnership extends beyond a single streaming release. CoComelon Senior Creative Executive Nicole Rivera described the project as a joyful blend of music, friendship, and educational play that stays true to the identities of both brands while creating something new for young viewers. Candle Media co-founder and co-CEO Kevin Mayer similarly suggested the crossover represents only the beginning of a broader creative partnership.
Sanrio is also preparing for one of the biggest projects in Hello Kitty's history. The beloved mascot Hello Kitty is scheduled to star in her first theatrical feature film, produced by Warner Bros. Animation, New Line Cinema, and FlynnPictureCo. The project reportedly required nearly a decade of negotiations between producer Beau Flynn and Sanrio founder Shintaro Tsuji before securing the rights. While story details remain secret, the film is currently scheduled to open in U.S. theaters on July 21, 2028. Until then, CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends gives longtime fans and a new generation of young viewers another opportunity to spend time with Hello Kitty and her friends when the crossover begins streaming on Disney+ on August 4.
