PS6 release date hasn't been decided yet, and you can probably guess why

Speculation is rife about when the next PlayStation console will come out, and as it turns out, Sony themselves aren't even sure.
It's been nearly six years since the PS5 first landed on shelves in Japan, and while sales of the console are still holding strong, many of us are already looking to what's next.
And while we haven't had any concrete confirmation thus far, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki gave us an interesting update during a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal.
With regard to the PS6's release date, the article notes that, "Totoki said the company still hasn't fixed a date for PS6's launch."
Now, if you've been following what's been going on with the Steam Machine and the next Xbox console, then you've probably already worked out the reason behind this issue – RAM.
Totoki's stance in his interview with the WSJ tracks with his comments back in May, where he revealed that, "Looking at the current circumstances, the memory price is also expected to be very high FY 2027, because there will still be a shortage of supply."
As such, neither a provisional release date nor price for the upcoming console has been decided.
The demand for RAM caused by the AI boom of the last few years has had a tremendous negative impact on gaming.
Valve was recently forced to bring the Steam Machine to market at a much higher price than initially expected owing to RAM prices, as well as to hike the price of the Steam Deck.
Similarly, analysts have reported that for similar reasons, the next Xbox console, codenamed Project Helix, could be set to market at more than $1000 at launch.
At the time of writing, the expectation among analysts has been that the PS6 is expected to launch in 2027.
But with Sony admitting that, with only a few months to go until 2027, the release date still hasn't been set in stone, it does suggest that perhaps a 2028 release may be more likely than initially expected.
