Long-Rumored StarCraft Shooter Revealed at BlizzCon 2026
StarCraft is officially returning. Dan Hay announced it at BlizzCon 2026. An announcement trailer revealed that the series would return in 2030. This is the first new release in the franchise since 2017’s StarCraft: Remastered.
StarCraft Returns in 2030
In his speech, Hay spoke about his passion for working at Blizzard and his excitement about the series’ return. This is a different kind of StarCraft release, as it will be a shooter. The franchise’s return has long been rumored.
Earlier this month, it was rumored that NEXON could be about to acquire StarCraft IP development rights from Blizzard. Still, back in January, it was reported that the game was likely to be revealed at this year’s convention.
The cinematic trailer showed soldiers training for ground combat, focusing on a young man preparing for war. The trailer’s voiceover was Dominion propaganda, explaining why the fight is vital to humanity’s salvation. Finally, it ends with the young man you’ve been following appearing to have perished in war, before announcing that the series will return in 2030.
