3 New Shows To Watch On Netflix This Weekend (July 31-Aug 2)

Netflix has several new shows worth checking out this weekend, July 31–August 2, 2026, but these three popular series stand out above the rest. Currently, the most-viewed shows on Netflix are the 6-part French action thriller Elite Force, which has held the #1 worldwide spot since it was released last week, and Ransom Canyon, the Western-themed romantic drama series which just dropped its second season and is #1 in the United States. Additionally, Harlan Coben's I Will Find You continues its impressive run in the global top 3 rankings.

This weekend, however, Netflix is offering three new series that are all acclaimed or popular in their own way, giving subscribers something fresh to binge during the first weekend of August 2026. Between a coming-of-age Spanish micro-drama with very short episodes, a gripping true crime docuseries about one of the most tragic murders in recent memory, an epic 10-part family drama that's surging on viewership charts right now, and a 6-part sports crime thriller, Netflix viewers have plenty of great new shows to dive into this weekend.

Final Project

Final Project is an intriguing new Spanish micro-drama series that spans 20 episodes, each of which is only 7 to 10 minutes long. With a total runtime of nearly three hours, this highly bingeable series is ideal for Netflix subscribers looking for an easy one-night watch. This teen drama/psychological thriller follows Tamara as she begins her first day at her new school, only to soon become the target of vicious cyberbullying. Tamara unexpectedly becomes close with a popular sports star named Xavi, who takes Tamara under his wing.

Unfortunately for Tamara, her connection with Xavi only draws more online hatred and even threats being thrown her way, and she begins to wonder how to properly handle such intense harassment. Ultimately, the cyberbullying ends up having real-world, even deadly, consequences, and the students become involved in a police investigation, which opens up a twisted web of secrets and truths. With its similar themes to Netflix's award-winning series Adolescence, Final Project is a fascinating watch that's worth a quick binge this weekend.

The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare

The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare is expected to be one of the most-watched new true crime docuseries on Netflix this weekend and may very well become one of the most popular series throughout the entire month of August. Viewers may be familiar with the harrowing story depicted in the 3-part docuseries, which just dropped on Wednesday, July 29, and chronicles the tragic murder cases involving four college students in Idaho in November 2022. The quadruple homicide and subsequent police investigation are reexamined in this new Netflix doc.

At just three episodes, each 44 minutes apiece, The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare is another great option for Netflix subscribers looking for something brief, even movie-length, to binge this weekend. While the story has been well documented in numerous books, documentaries, and news reports, viewers are already claiming that Netflix's new series is the most comprehensive of the bunch. If you consider yourself a big true crime fan, The Idaho Murders: College Nightmare is not to be missed on Netflix.

My Daughter's Father

My Daughter's Father has quietly been a streaming hit on Netflix all week long since it first hit the platform on July 22. Currently the #2 most-watched Netflix show in the world and #4 in the U.S., My Daughter's Father is a 10-part family drama series centered around a nightmarish tragedy. The story begins when Julietta, a recent high school graduate, suddenly suffers a health crisis that places her life in grave danger, which forces her mother, Maca, to reveal an earth-shattering secret that will change her family's life forever.

Heavily dramatic and even veering into soapy at times, My Daughter's Father has captivated millions of viewers around the world for its strong performances and twisty narrative that rests entirely on the premise of how far a mother will go to save her child. Netflix subscribers looking for something with a substantial emotional weight and who typically enjoy melodramas and telenovelas will certainly enjoy this new 10-part series, especially as it continues to gain traction with viewers worldwide this weekend.
