Free 94%-rated co-op horror gets Steam demo gets early access launch that will scare your socks off

Drawing inspiration from the darkest corners of your minds, this new take on a Ouija Board has landed on Steam, and as you roll in a D&D-like fashion to beat a seemingly harmless Gamemaster, it promises to have your skeleton jumping out of your skin.

If you thought that your squad has exhausted everything on the free games market, we've got news for you: there's one demon you've not beaten yet.

And we've found him. Enter the 'Gamemaster' of Invokyr.

With over 700,000 downloads in a free demo run, Invokyr is launching into an early access state next month, and it promises to be like nothing else on Steam.

Invokyr is Jumanji meets D&D and with a terrifying twist

Having launched two months ago, Invokyr has become a hit sensation on Steam, allowing a full run-through of its Ouija board meets D&D gameplay, where gameplay is simple yet seriously scary.

With a games board for fun, the entire house is turned into a spiritual nightmare, where a co-op squad of up to six players have to defeat enemies and unlock progressively difficult rooms on their way to freedom.

"You’re trapped. The house groans around you. Cold. Dark. On the table sits a 1970s board game, dusty but humming with energy. You’d heard rumours, of course. About the board, the house. You look to your friends, and a voice, whimsical yet bitter, speaks: 'Let’s play a game,'" the Steam descrition reads.

"Once a beloved toy, the Gamemaster now rules this abandoned house. Escape is possible but only if you play. You roll the dice, and another worldly sound echoes through the house. Will you win your freedom or be dragged into the darkness?"

In its free demo state, players are rewarded with a full gameplay loop (unlike other demos that cut you off midway through your progress), with the indie developers promising that the actual game will build on this with entirely new boards and houses to conquer.

Thankfully, this means players get a full taste of what to expect with a satisfying ending, and that has resulted in mass positive reviews.

"This game is incredible. Perfect balance between laughs and screams. Addicting gameplay loop. I am really excited and hopeful for more!" one popular reveiw said on Steam.

Another added, "I WANT TO PLAY MORE!!! So much fun like every dice rolls have a slice of randomness so refreshing experience and it was just a demo with soo much content, imagine how hella fun would be the entire game!!!!"

But if you want more, an expanded early access period is on its way.

Spooky Steam freebie Invokyr sets early access launch date

As of October 8, the game will be released in a bulkier 'early access' period, which will see a wealth of new boards to play, containing new monsters, events, rules, and items to collect.

"Players will be able to explore several themed boards, survive more than 15 monsters and 20 events, discover and use more than a dozen different dice and cursed idols, purchase upgrades and equipment, and face increasingly dangerous combinations of rules as they progress toward the ultimate Invokyr Board," developers Ludogram said.

There's no news on how much the game will cost yet, but if the free demo has you and the squad hooked, it could be a worthwhile investment.
