10 Most Powerful Mutants In X-Men '97 Season 2, Ranked
Warning: This article contains SPOILERS for X-Men '97 season 2.
X-Men '97 season 2 is approaching its conclusion, having featured all kinds of powerful mutants, and most of the cast has only gotten stronger. Alongside introducing a variety of new characters, the series has continued focusing on the X-Men and how they have evolved, with the team taking on bigger threats than ever before.
Not only have they been tested physically, but season 2 has been a real mental challenge for this ever-growing group, creating a much more experienced version of the X-Men. As a result, X-Men '97 has finally done justice to some characters that are often misrepresented in live-action and beyond, while ensuring many of these figures fulfill their full potential.
That said, not all the show's strongest mutants are part of the X-Men, with some even directly opposing these heroes. With that in mind, now is the perfect time to look at who X-Men '97's most powerful mutants are in season 2, especially since one character stands well above the competition.
11 Rogue
Although we haven't seen the very best of Rogue this season, she remains one of X-Men '97's most powerful mutants. Her ability to absorb people's powers and memories instantly makes her a versatile threat, as she can be a real wildcard in fights that may otherwise look unwinnable to her and her fellow X-Men.
Additionally, prolonged contact is an unfavorable yet effective method of taking down her foes, and even without using any of these traits, she has the same abilities as Carol Danvers — one of Marvel's strongest heroes — after permanently absorbing her powers.
As a result, Rogue can fly and pack a heavy punch at the worst of times, while being able to adapt to any confrontation, proving she's still among the strongest mutants in season 2, despite being less involved.
10 Psylocke
As a key part of X-Force, Psylocke has had a great opportunity to flex her skills this season, as we have seen a glimpse of her hand-to-hand combat as well as her ability to influence people's minds. Possessing both telepathy and telekinesis, Psylocke is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with, cementing her as a real jack-of-all-trades.
Her background as an assassin makes her excellent for covert operations, while her mental traits make interrogations relatively simple most of the time. That said, she can also handle herself in a straight-up brawl, solidifying X-Force as an extremely powerful team in X-Men '97 season 2, with Psylocke being one of the strongest members.

8 Polaris
Like her father, Polaris has the ability to manipulate magnetism, and while she lacks the same level of power and control as Magneto, her powers are still scarily strong. She had a whole episode that showcased her growth, successfully taking down Charles Xavier's Danger Room after it went rogue, albeit with the help of some fellow X-Men.
Polaris hasn't completely mastered her skills yet, and her ceiling seems to be below her father's, but based on what we've seen so far, she's still above most mutants. Managing to help save the day in the latest episode further reinforces her potential, as her wisdom outshines her compulsive nature, making her one of X-Men '97's most capable heroes.
7 Exodus
Exodus is one of X-Men '97's newest additions, and he made quite the first impression. As a skilled swordsman with the ability to teleport, he acts as the perfect opponent for Nightcrawler, but this is just scratching the surface of his skill set.
Although we didn't quite see everything he could do, Exodus showed a glimpse of his psionic powers when he attacked Colossus, and X-Men's source material suggests he's even stronger. In other media, he is described as having omega-level telekinesis and has even resurrected people from the dead, but this hasn't been shown in the show just yet.
Therefore, based purely on X-Men '97 season 2, episode 7's portrayal of the character, he remains one of the more powerful mutants in the series, but doesn't quite climb past the heaviest hitters just yet.
6 Magneto
The true master of magnetism eclipses most mutants in X-Men '97, and while he proved that multiple times throughout season 1, one moment from season 2 highlighted just how strong Magneto became. After failing to stop En Sabah Nur from becoming Apocalypse, things looked bleak for the X-Men, but Magneto stepped up to help his fellow mutants escape the villain's wrath.
Unfortunately, this left him and Charles to battle Apocalypse alone, where he showed his ultimate strength. Using the full extent of his powers, Magneto successfully contained a black hole destined to wipe out an entire civilization, a feat that far exceeds the capabilities of most mutants.
Ultimately, this sacrifice left Magneto vulnerable, leading to his demise at the hands of Apocalypse. However, he showed that while fighting at his maximum, Magneto could at least fend off a fully powered Apocalypse to some degree — a claim no one else in the show currently has.
5 Professor X
Killing off a character as big as Magneto highlights why X-Men '97 ranks as one of the best X-Men shows ever made, and it also emphasizes what makes Professor X so strong. Alongside being among the strongest telepaths in Marvel, Charles' true power comes from his ability to inspire others, as evidenced by Magneto's sacrifice.
X-Men '97 season 2's finale premieres on August 12. The show has been renewed for season 3.
He may lack the physical traits of his fellow mutants and struggles to fight one-on-one, but his ability to get through to others and achieve peace is uncanny. When pushed though, Charles can be ruthless, and with the ability to control and read minds, it's clear he is someone you don't want to cross on a bad day.
4 Cable
Cable is a fascinating case, as on the surface, he may not look nearly as strong as some of the previous entries in this list. However, he has telepathic abilities, a deep understanding of advanced technology, can time travel, and is a very efficient leader, giving him all the tools needed to take on Apocalypse.
Additionally, he is one of the most mentally resilient characters in X-Men '97, only adding to what makes him such a competent fighter. As it stands, he is one of the most knowledgeable and reliable mutants in the series, but had it not been for the techno-virus limiting his power, he'd surpass everyone else in a heartbeat.
Therefore, while he still has limitations and can be beaten currently, finding a cure to his virus would make Cable unstoppable, hence why he ranks so high.
3 Storm
So many of the X-Men's strongest members thrive due to their mental powers, but Storm is easily their main physical threat. Being able to manipulate weather allows her to launch some deadly attacks and have a fighting style unlike any other hero or villain in the show, earning her status as an omega-level mutant.
Wind and lightning tend to be the signature elements she leans on during fights, but she's cunning enough to adapt to whatever the situation needs. Storm's wisdom and intellect also add to what makes her powerful and suggest she could play a key role in X-Men '97 season 2's X-Corp.
Anyone brave enough to take on Storm isn't just battling a goddess of the elements, but they are also facing off against a battle-tested veteran who has seemingly no upper limit to her powers, meaning very few mutants can match her.
2 Jean Grey
While many other mutants have strong telepathic abilities, Jean Grey operates on a completely different level. Be it people or objects, Jean is often able to assert complete control over them, not relying on something like physical touch to do so. This makes her a valuable member of the X-Men, and someone you'd always want on your side.
However, the fact that Jean often wields the Phoenix Force is what really sets her apart from the competition, as it grants her god-like powers that can even resurrect her. She may not always be at the heart of the action, but Jean is by far the X-Men's strongest member, and only one mutant is more powerful in X-Men '97 season 2.
