Disney finally does Kylo Ren right by giving him the one action sequence he deserved but never got in Star Wars' sequel trilogy. Star Wars' Episodes VII through IX introduced valuable additions to Star Wars lore despite uneven development across the three movies. Rey brings a new perspective to the Jedi legacy through her connection to the Force and her eventual rejection of Palpatine's bloodline. Finn provides one of the trilogy's most intriguing ideas as a reformed stormtrooper, and Poe Dameron evolves from a cocky pilot into a charismatic Resistance leader.

Despite multiple weak points, Kylo Ren received some of the trilogy's strongest character material through his complicated connection to the Skywalker family. After unforgivable actions like murdering Han Solo, Kylo's eventual rejection of the Supreme Leader role concludes his arc on a definitive note. The weakness lies in the connective tissue, however, since the sequel trilogy never clearly explains what caused Ben's initial descent beyond Luke's failed confrontation and vague references to Snoke's influence, and his redemption arrives with similarly little time to explore how years of murder and authoritarian rule could be overcome.

Ultimately, while his character arc is undeveloped, Kylo Ren's best moments are when he doubles down on his turn to the dark side and channels his admiration for Darth Vader.

Jedi Master — or moisture farmer on Tatooine?

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story set the template for Star Wars' modern action sequences with Darth Vader's now-famous hallway massacre scene. An overwhelmingly skilled Force user fighting multiple enemies inside a confined environment is a simple concept, but it's one of the best additions to Star Wars lore in recent years. Only a few years later, The Mandalorian followed suit with Luke Skywalker's arrival at the Nevarro base. Now, even though it's considerably shorter in comic book form, Kylo Ren's own hallway scene joins this unique collection of power feats.

Kylo Ren's introduction in Star Wars: The Force Awakens immediately establishes him as a dangerous figure when he stops a blaster bolt in midair using the Force. Later on, Kylo's duel with Finn and Rey on Starkiller Base underlines his intimidating presence. Yet, Kylo doesn't build upon these action scenes at any point after Episode VII. Despite his strong introduction, his imposing design, and his unique weapon, the sequel trilogy rarely gives him the opportunity to showcase his skills in a dedicated action sequence.

Although The Last Jedi gives Kylo several important battles, they tend to be overshadowed by other characters. Ben Solo's duel with Rey against Snoke's guards in The Last Jedi is perhaps the second most memorable action scene featuring Kylo, but Rey receives much of the physical spotlight. Later on, Luke deliberately refuses to fight Kylo directly, and in The Rise of Skywalker, Palpatine's return pushes Kylo's abilities into the background once again. While Kylo would never rival Darth Vader's legendary reputation, the sequel trilogy could have given him at least one scene as exciting as Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren #1's hallway fight.
