Mass Effect Legendary Edition is 75% off on Xbox following BioWare's closure and Mass Effect 5 cancellation
Mass Effect Legendary Edition gets a huge $45 discount on Xbox for a limited time, following BioWare's closure and the reported cancellation of Mass Effect 5.
On October 21, 2026, EA announced that, after more than 30 years, BioWare is closing down, bringing an end to development on the next Mass Effect game, which was first revealed during The Game Awards in 2020.
While many had seen the writing on the wall following the releases of Mass Effect: Andromeda, Anthem and, more recently, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it's still a devastating blow for the industry to lose such a prominent studio with a legacy spanning three decades.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition gets a huge discount
Thankfully, you can still revisit the timeless original Mass Effect trilogy for less, with Mass Effect Legendary Edition now available at a huge discount on Xbox for a limited time.
The deal arrives as a petition to save Mass Effect gains traction online, with many fans hoping EA will allow another studio to continue the sci-fi RPG series. Thankfully, the Mass Effect universe isn't entirely going away, with an Amazon TV adaptation still reportedly in development.
Right now, on the Xbox Marketplace, you can pick up Mass Effect Legendary Edition at a whopping 75% discount, bringing the price down from $59.99/£59.99 to just $14.99/£14.99. The Xbox deal ends on November 5, 2026.
At the time of writing, there is no similar discount on the PlayStation Store or Steam. However, that doesn't mean there won't be one at some point, as Mass Effect Legendary Edition has benefited from numerous discounts on both digital storefronts. So, add it to your wishlists, just in case.
What’s included in Mass Effect Legendary Edition?
Mass Effect Legendary Edition includes remasters of the original trilogy: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3. The collection also comes bundled with a ton of previously released DLC, including Lair of the Shadow Broker, Overlord, Arrival, From Ashes, Leviathan, Omega and Citadel, alongside additional weapons, armour and cosmetic packs.

How Mass Effect Legendary Edition improves the original trilogy
As for the improvements, the visuals have been overhauled across the board, with support for resolutions up to 4K. What's more, the textures, lighting, shadows, character models, environments and cinematics have all been enhanced.
Combat has been improved to feel more precise and responsive. Even the infamous controls of the six-wheeled Mako have been updated to make it much less awkward to handle. Furthermore, companion AI has been enhanced, making squadmates more useful in combat. There are also plenty of quality-of-life improvements, such as faster loading times.
Is Mass Effect Legendary Edition worth playing in 2026?
Absolutely. Even in their original form, the Mass Effect trilogy is a series that any fan of sci-fi RPGs shouldn't miss, despite the clunky controls of the original 2007 game.
However, this remastered collection makes each entry look and perform much better, while also benefiting from quality-of-life improvements and gameplay tweaks that make these timeless classics well worth playing today, whether you're a returning fan or new to the series.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
