The Legend Of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Has Seemingly Leaked
Images of a limited edition Nintendo Switch 2 model are circulating online, and a couple of sources are reporting that they are legitimate. If true, this means that Nintendo is marking forty years of The Legend of Zelda with a new Switch 2 - the first limited edition Switch 2 since the console launched last year.
These images have been backed up by leakers including Centro Leaks and Shpeshal Nick, the latter of which had actually been talking about this weeks ago. While this is all still in the realm of leaks and speculation, that's two sources backing it up now, and it would make a lot of sense for Nintendo to go all out on Zelda's upcoming anniversary like this.
This Might Be Our First Look At The Next Nintendo Switch 2 Model
The images show the boxes for both a new Switch 2 and a Pro Controller, both decked out with Zelda theming. A watermark on the second image suggests they come from Xianyu, a Chinese second-hand marketplace. In the age of AI, or just clever editing, this should all be taken with a pinch of salt, but some sources are sticking by their claims that this is the real deal.
There's no word on a release date. Shpeshal Nick has guessed November 19, although he stresses that this doesn't mean that the Ocarina of Time remake will also drop on that day. The console itself may not be strictly themed around this release, but Zelda more generally, and thus release separately.
The release date for the Ocarina of Time remake hasn't been confirmed by Nintendo at this time, just the vague "late 2026" window.
Even if this is real, I wouldn't expect the release to tie in with any Zelda release dates. The first game launched 40 years ago, true enough, but it launched on three separate dates, depending on your region. It released in Japan on February 21, 1986, which has come and gone, and only came to the US and Europe the following year.
Whatever the case, the latest news we've heard is that the Ocarina of Time remake isn't being pushed out of 2026, which is something. Nintendo clearly isn't that scared of GTA 6.
