New gameplay footage of Marvel’s Wolverine is getting a ton of hate online, with one viral clip of Logan fighting a Sentinel being strangely compared to Ben 10: Protector of Earth.
At one time, Insomniac making a Wolverine game was regarded as one of the best pieces of news to come out of PlayStation. We all begged for a new look at the game after that all-too-brief teaser in the bar, and impressions were incredibly positive when the first proper trailer released a few years later.
Cut to today, and that’s a very different story. Over the past few months, Wolverine has been getting a ton of hate for a variety of reasons, from its changed character models to Logan’s regenerating suits. Some of those complaints are fair game, but many of them are starting to feel forced, which is best shown with a new clip that’s gone viral.

Earlier this week, previews for Marvel’s Wolverine went live, with several outlets sharing detailed looks at how the game plays. One gameplay snippet shows Wolverine facing off against a Sentinel in a boss fight that should be very familiar to anyone who has played basically any game over the past few decades. Yes, it’s one where the big mech punches the ground, you dodge, and then you hit it.
I won’t argue that it’s not exactly the most groundbreaking innovation in boss battles, but I also don’t really understand why it’s drawing comparisons to Ben 10: Protector of Earth. A clip comparing the two that was shared by Twitter user kaiser_drago has gone viral over the past day with over 20,000 likes and nearly a million views as of the time of writing.
Like I said, big enemy, big punch, big dodge fights aren’t exactly new, but that’s because so many games have done them in the past. It’s a trope of video games for sure, but Marvel’s Wolverine certainly isn’t the only big game to do it. In fact, it’d be easier to list the games that haven’t had a similar type of battle. What else do you expect a guy with claws to do against a big robot?
So, why is Wolverine getting the pointy end of the stick? Well, for starters, PlayStation’s massive physical release controversy has caused an army to form against Insomniac and Wolverine. The eventual negative reception to Spider-Man 2 isn’t helping things much, and then there’s the reemerging console wars to consider as well.
It’s totally fine to not be excited for Wolverine, and even more so to be more than a little bit bored of the age-old dodge a big fist and hit it when it’s stuck. But acting like Wolverine is copying an admittedly goated Ben 10 licensed game is just a little forced and undermining all of those valid complaints.
